hi,

You need to send them a letter to ask for the application form, and then they will send you a application form together with the general information book. According to their information show on the book, you have to submit your application according to their time table. If the information I receive last year is still right, your application has to be submit as below schedule,

If you child was born  between: Jul - Dec 2003
Submit application form on: 1st June 2005

If your children want to study in this school, they must speak very fluent English as the school will test your kids.

I've applied ESF, Tsing Yi for my daughter. They said they don't need any interview. They just select the students by the information written on the application. My friend called them last week, they still accept the application of April term 2005.

No interview for ESF kindergarden. So English is not a must for the child.  ESF assumes the kids can pick up English easily when they are playing in the English environment.  In fact the kids are learning from the activities, not from the formal study as the normal schools offer.

However, for ESF Primary School, a group interview will be arranged.  The teacher will lead the group in English in order to select those capable ones.  At this stage, your child should better understand some basic English conversation.  The teacher will ask the children to take some activities.

hi all,

I have attend the introductory meeting yesterday in ESF Tsing Yi. I was really impressed. I would say if my kids study there would definiately play hard, as they have set up alot of activities, student there would possible to "learn through play" without pressure, as no exam, no writing, just playing.

However, I am still struggling whether I should put my kid there. First reason is my kid is quite happy with her present kindergarten (international kinder provide bilingual course). Second reason is i am struggling whether we should switch her back to local kinder (our target is st.catherine). Does anyone share with me why did you choose this school for you kid? Why did you choose international school instead of local school? Do your kid join any after school course like Chinese? Will the kid learn how to write Chinese in ESF primary? what level (chinese) are they behind if compare with the local school?

Are there any primary school in kln or NT provide bilingual course? I know Kingston in Kln Tong and there are more choice in HK side, i.e. SIS, CIS etc.., but they are far more expensive and too far away from home.

Dear cpmummy,

I think the first question is that have you decided your child's path? Will she study local primary school or international? The followings are my opinions:

1. If you want her to study international primary school, ESF is no doubt a good choice.

2. If you want her to study in local primary school. I suggest you to stay in her present school, where she can learn in both languages. And I guess the style is simliar to local schools.

This is my case, just for your reference. I think I will let my daughter to study private or 直資 school, because I'm living in Tung Chung and there aren't many choices. So I've applied ESF and Sunshine (an international kindergarten nearby). The reasons are:

1. I want her to study in a happy and creative way.
2. They have no homework, so that she can have more time for other activities, such as music and sports.  
3. Good in English has an advantage in HK.

But her Chinese standard is another problem. So I decide to teach her Chinese at home.

Nice to know your info. about ESF Tsing Yi.

I have also applied for ESF Tsing Yi and the application form was sent on June 2004. But i haven't received any further info from the school until now. Could you please tell me how can i have a chance to attent this kind of  school introductory meeting ? Do you child have accepted by them ? Because i really want to know more about this kinder. My daughter was born in Dec 2002 and she is 22 months old now.

   Your child will start when he / she is three year old .... so ...the earilest is Jan 2006.  We received the notification of April 2005 offer in late Oct and got five days to make the decision after the introductory meeting on first on Nov.

ESF Tsing Yi can take children from western Kowloon.   In fact, there is another ESF kindergarden located at Lai Yiu, named Bauhinia School.  You can consider this as well.

Dear heratang and cpmummy,

I agree with heratang's comment.  

In addition, I would like to point out that the school fee should play an important role when we consider international teaching curriculum.  

This will not be so significant when your children study at the kindergarten (pre school stage).  It is because the local kindergarten school fee is also expensive.  However, the difference in the school fee becomes significant in primary and secondary schools.  

ESF secondary school fee is already the cheapest among other international schools in Hong Kong.  You still have to pay annually HK$47,300 for primary and HK$78,600 for secondary.  The school fee is going to be raised next year because the SAR government has discussed to lower its subsidy to ESF.     

It will be pity if your children have to drop out from ESF primary or secondary due to the economic reason.
