Hi,

Pls share your view of Chinese International School (漢基). Is it very difficult to get in? Do they emphasize on both English and Chinese? What is their criteria of selecting students?

Hello rubymail,
I have already submitted the form for applying CIS. You can arrnage a time to visit the school and submit your application form 2 years perior to entry.
How old is your child. I talked to some tutors in CIS before and they said that both level of Chinese and English language are very important for entry. They expect us to communicate with our children in both language in daily life.

Do you know what is the acceptence criteria of CIS. I mean, are they expecting student to hold foreign passport? Also, do you know the current school fee?

BTW, I heard that it is very difficult to get a place.

首先，你仔仔已經五歲，那麼你想幾多幾送他入CIS？CIS是英國式學校，五歲已入讀小一(year 1)。
二，他現在是讀國際幼稚園嗎？
三，Applicants for the Primary School (Year 1 to Year 6) are tested only if and when space is available.所以交了申請表後，學校會放你入waiting list （話你知你排第幾）then wait until they have students left and it's time for your son to have interview or test.
四，Oral interviews are conducted in English and Chinese (Putonghua).
五：學費是分級計的，不是統一的，今年學費是由大約７千多（四歲班）至萬一（中７班）year 1 and year 2 : around $98000
六：還有，每年大約有幾千元的雜費，多少是每級都不同的。今年year10至少，交二千多元的雜費，year９至多，交九千幾雜費
７：acceptence criteria：social/conduct history+language proficiency+academic achievement

My son is currently studying in a local kindergarten and I'm looking for P.1 for him this year.

I like the school because I heard that it also equally emphasize Putonghua other than English. It seems that there are not many IS that also emphasize Chinese. But I also heard that it is very difficult to get admitted despite the high school fee. Do you know how many P.1 places?

May I ask you why you choose Chinese International School?

如果你想出年送仔仔入國際學校，你應現在要申請入讀明年九月的Year 2.因為英式國際學校是五歲入Year 1，所以到出年六歲應入讀Year 2.
我申請是因為我將來想送回囡囡返英國讀書，她在英園出世，我都已參觀過學校，十分喜歡學校的學術氣氛，學習環境一流。
我不清楚Year 1有幾多位，不如你快快去入紙申請吧，因面試日期是每年一月至三月，如果你想申請Year 1，那麼你要問問學校吧！如果申請Year 2要看看出年年中有沒有學生不注冊，不注冊即是於棄學位，那麼學校便會給你安排面試等等的入學手續。

As I understand , the purchase of a debenture will secure in place in CIS .

There are companies specializing the the trading of 2nd hand memberships of golf clubs, yacht clubs etc, and debentures of CIS . Their advertisements can  sometimes be found in SCMP .

The last time I heard of it, CIS debenture was trading at ~ HK$ 0.7 million.

我知呀！買debenture個d，CIS 唔係一定收，但係會優先取錄！基本上，入學時有debenture，唔係唔識講英文既，學校當然收啦！
CIS 個debenture有兩種，一種叫 CNR, 一種叫 PNR , CNR係 Corporate, 即以公司名義issue, 可以係畢業後或退學後轉讓給其他公司，PNR係 peronal,即以parnets名義issue,唔可以轉讓但退學時會扣除雜費後全數退還。

CNR $600,000
PNR $75 000
我以前在英國讀書時都有買這種PNR，不過學校是叫refundable deposte，英國全部私立學校都有採用的。

如果不選擇上兩種，可選每年交$7500（退學時不會退還）

Hello ThierryMaMa,

Yes, I must let her to study K1 to prepare for CIS.

My daughter is accepted by an English kindergarten already but we are still waiting for an interview in St Paul's convent.

On the other hand, my daughter is also attending playground in an international kindergarten. Actually,she is used to communicate with people around her in English now. However,I have told her that if people talk to her in English,she has to reply people in English. On the other hand, if people talk with her in Cantonese, she has to reply in Cantonese as well.  I wont let her to forget about Chinese. SHE doesn't know what is respect but she knows what politeness is.

So, apart from school study environment, home schooling is also important.

Smartb, great sharing. BTW, when did you send BB to PIPS and why did you switch to ESF Kindie? As these two places are quite far away from each other, there must be some good reasons in doing so. Appreciate if you could share.

Hi, ThierryMaMa,

Initial, we lived in Yuen Long.  After we decided to follow the international school direction, we moved to Tsing Yi hoping to enter ESF Tsing Yi.  As the queue was long, we sent my son to PIPS Rhine Garden for international nursery and 1st half of international K1.  Since ESF offered a place for my son, we switched to ESF for K1.  We knew that ESF did not stress on Chinese language teaching and we decided we should also apply schools like SIS, CIS, Canadian IS, GIS, JIS.  We are lucky that my son was offered a place in CIS reception and he does enjoy studying in CIS.
