可否分享下ESF 對大家的吸引力??

有見大家都好關心/有興趣入ESF，所以想知道小小原因，唔介意的話可否分享一下？

我的同事的小朋友都有好幾個係ESF入面讀小學，我的鄰居都係係ESF小學讀，可能太多朋友（的小朋友）係入面讀，所以的對ESF的熱愛程度不高，因為：

１）入面好多都係本地人，即香港人，
２）小朋友的其中一項補習項目就係〔中文〕，
（其實我好介意中國人唔識中文）
３）我沒$，怕無影中影響小朋友心理，　
因為學生家庭大多有些$$，所以佢地日常消費都幾高，玩又玩得貴，食�穿又好，小朋友好有比較
４）社會觀念不同．
我朋友個女十歲，而家佢地朋輩的傳統�文化已經玩到去不同同學家過夜，如果第日我囡囡有咁的要求，都唔知比唔比好，一怕反叛二怕佢唔入群三怕自己追唔上四怕自己接受唔到．

不如大家交換下意見啦．

Although my son is studying in an ESF junior school, I am still collecting information to justify my choice.

I choose ESF schools because:
1 - Local schools are too bad.
2 - EMB has committed  too many mistakes,  I don't want my son to be a guinea pig for their experiments.  An educator said "We need to sacrifies 10 years to implement 3+3+4 because the teachers need ten years to learn and accustom to the new system."  
3 - Local teachers are working very hard to keep their jobs, they need to study for the exams and they may not have enough time to care about the students. (A local teacher interviewed by press said "I must concentrate on my exam., my students' problems are not my concern now.我要顧掂我自己先")
4 - ESF teachers have much better qualifications.
5 - ESF can teach my son good English, I can teach my son Chinese.  Hong Kong is mainly a Chinese environment, it is not difficult to learn Chinese in Hong Kong.  Besides, Chinese for business communications is Putongua not Cantonese, simplified Chinese characters rather than traditional Chinese characters.
6 - It is much more happy for my son to study in an ESF school.
7 - This is my son's choice.
8 - ESF school  can prepare my son better for studying in other countries,  Universities in Hong Kong are just mediocre.
9 - Students studying in local schools can also have discipine problems and brand names worship  problems.
10 -  ESF schools are relatively affordable for me.
11 - Many Chinese students are studying in the schools is an advantage for me, then my son won't be completely westernized.  To the best of my knowledge, most of them can speak much better English than me even though they are only 6 years old.

As you know so many ESF students, apart from more westernized and can speak good English, what is the academic standard and quality of students from ESF?   

As I know, many of them can join very good Universities after they graduated from ESF secondary,  which are better than students from other international secondary schools.  In terms of school fees, ESF's fees is the lowest of all international schools.  So maybe that's why so many parents keen to send their kids into ESF.

Can any one share which ESF  is better as i heard  that there are different quality of  each ESF??
My friend told me the ESF located in Boxhill Rd is quite good. Is that true?

其實我以前都好鐘意ESF的，不過見到班同事的仔女，知道多些有關他們對學校的感受，子女的學校生活，我興趣減了小小．

So far, I've only heard about the positive side of Kennedy School as a few of my friends' children are students there.  They are happy outgoing kids, avid readers and love going to school!

Living in HK, a kid can learn adequate
Chinese even there is no Chinese class
at all in school, no need to worry.

But if you expect very good Chinese,
it would be different, of course

當然, 香港係一個中文語系的地方, 我的同事2公婆都係中國人, 屋企都係講中文tim, 但中文最特別的係, 講得未必可以寫得, 文言文同白話文始終都有分別.  而廣東話當中亦有好多字係有音無字的. 這點大家都應該知道的!

何謂good chinese?  我想至少都要識講識寫,更加要識講得正確,用字用得恰當. 亦要可以用文章表達自己之類.

而佢地比小朋友學中文, 當然亦都有我的想法, 而且亦希望小朋友有基本中國文化.  有些東西, 憑生活是學不到的.

Hello,我囡囡現時3歲,崗收到ESF通知5月4日去開會,現正煩惱入讀與否,因囡囡現時已就讀KINGSTON幼兒班,她非常習慣,但就於ESF的名氣及校網佳之原故,本人真難決擇,可否給點意見!!!!

Is it true that ESF Kindergartens have changed their acceptance policy regarding age?  My son was born in Oct. and ESF Sheung Wan told me he won't be admitted until JAN 2006 and not SEPT 2005 because he will not be 3 yrs old by SEPT 2005...

I know you are very hard to make decision.  Which ESF kinder you apply? Tsing Yi?  Where do you live?  As Kingston is in Kowloon tong, which location is good for you?

But if you want your kid studying in ESF primary, it would be better to study in ESF kinder because they have priority to get in ESF primary.  Otherwise stay in Kingston.  Personally, I like Kingston more than ESF kindy.

Do you still remember the news last year on ESF from the Educational Board in HK?  ESF management team was found to be big money spender for the benefit of the management team.  Though ESF had eventually come out to ensure that they would correct the situation.

Look!  The school fee of ESF is considered as not high compared to many other international school, and yet their management can still over-spend the money on their own team's benefit.  So, what do you expect from them?  If you visit some of their school, you can see what kinds of teachers they employ.  How many of them are really teachers from UK, North America or Australia?

Sorry that it is the fact.  ESF was famous in the past.  I heard that ESF Kindergarten just mixes the smaller and older children to learn.  To some parents, they think that it is an advantage.  It is true for small kids.  However, if the child turns bigger, what do you think that they can learn from the smaller ones.  Many countryside school organised similarly.  So, do you think that it is a right system?

For Kingston, I don't have much info. but know that it is a small scale school.  As a result, many of the parents claimed that the children can be fully taken care by the teachers.  Their language skill is also claimed to be very strong.

In my opinion, famous and big do not necessary mean good.  What the priority of choosing a school is still on the children themselves.  Whether they gain right level of care and education.

I feel astonished that you have such reservations against the quality of the ESF teachers.

Understanding that the teachers of ESF are of good teaching experience, they are indeed enjoying compliments among parents (including me). I especially admire of the way they cater with kids' problem like bullying.
I am also an ESF parent and I observe that students there are being well taken care of.

Their teachers will evaluate on individual ability on English and determine the specific level of story books to read each day. And according to their improvement, higher level of reading books will be assigned.


Infact, I also aware of the criticism about high spending on part of the management. Yet I also heard about the fact that ESF had used its abundant resources to capture many good teachers from other international schools and from all around the world ! (In this regards, the high spending is justified to our proposition.)

So as a parent, I tend not to focus on the financial issue. I care about paying relatively low school fee for receiving high quality education. That's what ESF lure us.

Lastly, I'm not sure of how you arrive with the sentiment towards ESF, but I hope you won't jump to conclusion before having a full picture of the facts !
