Yes, that's. Last week,I meet some ma ma and we take about our kids, I told her that my son will go to school on Nov, and she told me that she heard something (bad point) about the school. When I ask for the details, but she didn't tell. So, I'm worry about it & want to know more about the school.

Re: kingstom Int'l School

I plan to put my little boy in Kingston when he reaches 1 year old.  As I have heard that if you let your kid in Kingston for 2 years, they will be fluency in both English and Mandarin.  However, I am not planning to put my kid in International primary school. will that be possible :
1.  in kingston for the first 2 years, then to local kindergarten e.g. Kentville - cos I like Kentville very much
2.  let my child study in Kingston from 1 years class till finish kindergarten education, then to local primary school

Will that be possible, will it be very difficult for the child to adopt local school after kingston? Any coment ?

Thanks

Re: kingstom Int'l School

For my opinion, you better put him in kindergarten, in stead of change to local kindergarten. If you only put him in kingston for the first 2 year, it is wasting your money.   Because they  don't talk too much in one and two year old, but they pick up language more effective between three and four year old. If money is not a problem, you can put him in whole preschool life. I don't think it is very difficult to adapt local school (primary school) after kingston, because they are strong in chinese. Children are very easy to adapt new enviornment.
And the school fee of kindergarten is $6980/mth

Re: kingstom Int'l School

My child is just 2 and half years old and study at kingston 2-3 years old class for 7 months. But we just get info (March) then they need our child repeat 2-3 years class again due to my child is too young since they only want (old Baby). It is not really good (6 other Kindergarden already accept my child application K1), They really choose student but not teaching them. And some of their teacher is not really good as well. I am not really recommand this school to any person.
good luck!!!!!!!!!

Re: kingstom Int'l School

My daughter is  2 year old and is studying in 1 year old class. I get known to this school from my friends. Over ten children of my friends are studying in this school (From 1yr old class to Primary 3). They all give me good comment about this school, so I send my daughter there. We all buy  Kingston's language policy, IB, and low teacher-to-student ratio.   I go to school with her eveyday.( 1 yr old class student must be accompanied by an adult) I think the teachers are mature, experienced and are very kind to children. They are not too loose to the students and they try to teach them rules , self-care, independency and courtesy. My daughter likes teachers very much and thus she likes to communicate with them in English and Mandarin. (My family speaks cantonese at home.)
Even in 1 yr old class, there is well-structured teaching theme. I'm satisfied with the school and I plan to let my daughter studying there at least during the kindergarten period.
Unlike those famous traditional kindergarten (St. Catherine and Kentville), Kingston is a relatively small-scale school. There are only 5 classes(am+pm) per year and there are only sixteen students in each class. As far as I know, the school is really full but they receicve more and more enquiry about applications.  This school is getting more and more popular.  So I am not surprised that they start to chose students. Actually, the school assesses the student's different ability (English and Mandarin skill, social , thinking and self-management skill) to see whether the student is competent for promotion. My friends (whose child studying in P3) told me that there were small number of students would not be offerred a place for promotion every year.

Re: kingstom Int'l School

Agreed with Megan, my daughter is in the 1 year old class and she likes it very much, I stay with her for 2 days a week and I found the teachers are really nice, and care for the kids.

Re: kingstom Int'l School

hi meiandkenny,

Why do they ask your son to repeat 2-3 years class? As far as I remeber they should accept the kid who born on or before October (or September, sorry can't remember exactly) in the school year. So that would be fine for your son to go to 3-4 years old class?
Do they explaine to you? Will that be too earlier to decide? As there are still half year to go for 05-06 school year.

Re: kingstom Int'l School

Hi Kenny

I don't know about the other classes but in my daughter's class (1 year old), there was a girl who got really ill about 2 months ago and went into hospital, the class teachers had gone to visit her at the hospital and help the other kids in the class make a 'get well soon' card for her. And I go to school with my daughter twice a week, as far as I can see, they care for the kids, just sometimes when there are 16 kids, it's difficult to pay equal attention to every single kid. I think it varies from teacher to teacher, I mean, there are really good ones that really love kids that's why they chose to be a teacher, some not that good ones are just treat it as a job, it happens not just in this field but other fields too.

Is your son feeling better now?

Re: kingstom Int'l School

Dear all parents,

I am new in this column.  My daughter is now studying in K2 and will go to P1 in Sept 2006.  I would like to know if the school accepts P1 application.  If so, when and how ?  Thanks.

Re: kingstom Int'l School

For kingston international school, the admission age for P1 is 5 year old not 6 year old. If your daughter is now studying in K2, that mean she need to study in coming Sept 2005. But if your daugher is born in Nov or Dec then you can apply for the next year.
But as I know to get the seat in P1 become more difficult, even now studying in the kindergarten are not guartanee to get a seat in P1. Because there is only 2 classes in P1 and only admit 44 students. And for their kindergarten, there are nearly 70-80 students. But you can still contact the school and ask for an application at any time.
