選國際學校的媽媽請比意見

我想比囡囡讀國際學校, 但又怕縮窄佢將來條路, 因只可升讀外國大學, 小女子有以下問題:

1) 讀國際學校是否

I also concern your questions:

1. International school students won't take HKCEE or AL exam, they'll take IB, AP or GCE exam intead, depends on which curriculum that the school teach.

2. Most international students will study abroad. In fact, there're a few place for international students to enter local universities but not many. My friend's kids study in ICS and they said there is ONE student enter HKU last year.

In my case, my girl is studying at Tsing Yi EST kinder. I'll choose some 直資, or private primary school in future, in which she can studying happily. I think I won't let her studying in international school all the ways because the culture is so different. I know some ESF secondary students have tongue rings or belly button rings. It's nature to them but not to us. That's the cultural different. Why did I choose ESF kinder then? It's just for fun, they're so small. I don't want her to copy 10 words every day.

if your kids go to IS all the way up,
i think it is better to send them overseas for university. i think the culture of local universities is very different than foreign universities.

I think local universities intend to take more and more students not following the HKAL. My wife has read an official publication from HKU (I forgot the exact name) that HKU alone admitted around 800 students in last year not coming from HKAL and most of them were students from HK's local international schools.

Y2KChild is right.  Local universities have channels for non-HKAL takers to apply.  Students from international schools apply through non-JUPAS system and are usually evaluated using a different mechanism.  Of course, if you want to enter competitive programmes such as medicine or business, it is not easy.  People still take GCE A-level as easier than HKAL.

Do you know how is the Chinese standard of your colleague's 2 daughters from ESF?  Did they study Chinese after school and pick it as their second language subject in the IBD exam?

Thanks very much for your info.  That seems to be good enough as I always worry that kids from ESF are very handicap in Chinese.  I believe your colleague's daughters must be very smart as it is not easy to get into LPC.
