Renaissance College Interview

I applied this new school for my daughter for her P.1 admission.  The interveiw will be on 13 Feb.  Anybody here know how will they interview new P.1 student?

Don't worries! Just take it easy last year my daughter interview is about 10-12 kids in group with a foreigner teacher.  Just draw a picture and the teacher ask a simple question.

The parents will be follow 校長參觀學校.

I still not received any letter for interview.  Can you tell me when have you sent your application form?  I sent on the information day. I'm worried that I can't get the interview.  Many thanks!

I sent the form in early Sept.

I called the school and a lady told me that parents would accompany the child to attend P1 interview for around half hour.

I sent the application form on the information day, too.  I received the letter on 28 Jan 2006.  The interview will be held on 20 Feb 2006.  I think you better phone the school.  I have phone the school when I have not received the letter.  And they replied me very soon.

I have asked the school staff today about the interview, they said it is individual interview with parent, not in a group.  My son is 6yrs and 3 months old, but they said if he is ok in the interview, he will be put in P.3 class in Sept .  I have a little bite worry about that!  My interview is on 17 Feb.

However, in the information day, those school staff said parent and child will interview separately.  They emphasize that they not merely assess the child's english level but to make sure parent will participate in certain school activities.  Any parent know have the school change their interview format?

My daughter and I attended the interview yesterday.  My daughter is just 5 and would like to attend the P.1 on Sep.  The interview this year is very different from the past.  You can accompany with your kid and have a face to face interview with two teacher.  They are not only interview the kid, but also the parent.  

My daughter is very shy to answer their questions.  However, what I can say is the interview room is not children friendly.  Two big guys, one Chinese one Foreigner, sitting in the middle of an empty room.  The table and the chair is very high for children.  I need to grap my daughter to the chair, after sitting down, the edge of the table is on the neck of my daughter.  Then, questions time....  The foreigner speak pretty fast.  If your kids is not studing at international school, it's a challenge for them to answer the question.

The whole interview last about 20 mins.  My daughter is very shy and speak in a very low voice.  I think the setting is not suitable for young kids.  They must consider to have some adjustment, like putting more kiddy stuff in the room to make it warm and friendly, use kid size furniture to let them more comfortable, sit beside the kid and talk to them in a more friendly manner...etc.

I think my daughter will not be accepted.   Good luck to all of you!

Don't worry.  RC is expanding this year.  They have more vacancies than last year.  Right?  

In fact, interview take 20 mins is a quite longer time. I think not even the child, parent also feel stress.  

Are the interviewer request your daughter to present herself by drawing or singing?  You mentioned that they also interview parent,  what have they asked?  Will the Chinese interviewer used Cantonese to ask questions ?

what they concern are the acadmic level of the child, which surprise me a lot.  What they did is like the traditional local school, I don't think an international school should be in this approach.  That makes me quite disappointed.

They are testing the English proficiency, not the academic level.

You mean that the school want both parent and child should be fluent in English, just like other ESF school.

Fluency in English is necessary for entering Renaissance as it is an international school with 80% classes taught by native english teachers.  If English of the kids is too handicapped, they will not be able to understand and learn.  Parents also need to communicate with school teachers in English, and need to help our kids' work a lot in English too.  So will be better to have high English proficiency.

My son attended the interview on 15 Feb in the early morning. He is applying for P1 in Sept. The situation was not as scary as what Doristsang said. The interview was conducted in an office, with the boy and the parents together interviewed by one teacher. The teacher was very friendly to my son and she asked very usual questions only. For example, how's your school life, what do you do on holidays, what are you good at......

Then she asked the parents to go out of the room and she stayed with my son for about 10 min. They were discussing about a story book. (My son didn't tell us what happened afterwards, so I am not sure what questions were asked.)

A questionnaire was given to the parents to answer some questions, like what you can contribute to the school, why do you choose Renaisssance, etc.

Do anyone know the result?
My daughter was interviewed on Feb 15, the feeling for me as same as doristsang.

We arrived there earlier than the interview time, so i have observed that they have arranged two group for interview. One is the same as doristsang and me, the other group is like sschiu. I thought the atmosphere in G/F room is much warmer than the 2/F room.

my daughter performed shy and low voice, unexpected, coz normally she's very active and talkative.

They said will notify us the result within 2 to 3 weeks. What do you think about the offers? Do you think it's difficult to entre? Do anyone know have second interview or not?

Still not receive the letter, think my daughter did not accepted as she was shy and did not want to speak during interview.
