Need your advice

Dear parents,
We are planning to send my son to study in international school, but my husband and my english is just so so, not excellent.  In the early year, like kindergarten and primary stage, we believe it should be no problem, but we are afraid that in upper primary and secondary stage, we cannot teach him or help him in studying as someone told me that family support is important for those kids who are studying in international school.  Is that true?

Re: Need your advice

Family support does not mean teaching English by parents uptil secondary...  In upper primary, kids already manage their work all by themselves, they learn faster than parents. I will support them only as spiritual mentor and encourage them to increase exposure through various activities, so need to pay more and more...and more importantly, is to support and guide them to lead a meaningful and positive life, go over barriers and setback, that's how I see my role to be, no matter the kids studying in which kind of schools.

Re: Need your advice

Dear WYmom & leehoma001,
Thanks for your reply.  From your message, I feel more comfortable to let my son study in int'l school.
Hwr, for the point 'enourage them to increase exposure through various activities', do you mean the after school activities?  Can you please specify what kind of activities are?
Another thing I am concern about is discipline, do you think discipline in inti'l school is loose?  Sorry being so many question, I just don't want to make a wrong decision as go back to local school is difficult from int'l school.  Mamy thanks.

Re: Need your advice

MarcusMa,

For activities, as I know from my girls' international schools, there are more activities during school hours asking parents to join as support, e.g. some project presentations, talent shows, music performance, sports etc.  So we have to spend time to join as "support".  Besides, there are also extra-curricular activities, outdoor camping, trips etc.  and we have to pay extra money for these.

As for discipline, it depends on which school.  In ESF primary, discipline is very good.  Not sure in other schools.  Maybe other parents can advise.

WYmom,

Would you mind to tell me the school of your children?

I don't think that discipline is loose in int'l school.  My son has already learned "kindergarten rules" at the  beginning of school day.  His class teacher will train them up to listen and follow instruction.
