數學何止教高一個學期, 再加上有限的英文理解, 學生就難上加難........(慘!!)

四川姑娘18歲進哈佛,夠早吧.  但書里說的不是如何跳班,製作天才, 而是父母如何從3-4歲開始,引起自己孩子的學習興趣,按她的能力,不用按書本,自己帶孩子深入學習,養成正確的學習態度.

孩子能力能否儘量發揮,是看父母努力,不是別人,如你的數學(或英文)好,那就更有優勢啦.

Not really.  At least not for the Americans.  They think they have serious problems because the level of Maths in their public school system is seriously lagging behind other countries, especially Hong Kong, Japan and Korea.

PISA is an international assessment across many countries over the world.  They consider the education systems in countries like Hong Kong very good (not just because of the maths level but also based on a very detailed analysis of the difference in performance of students from different socio-economical background.)

American students entering the university find themselves seriously lagging behind those students from the Mainland China and other Asian countries.

American public schools are moving to the constructivist approach in Maths.  But hundreds of professors from top universities signed a petition letter to the government to stop this because the approach is dumbing down their kids.

That's why they send their kids to private schools as long as they can afford it.

Constructivist approach may dumb the less capable kids but not the able kids.

I think Americans (and all countries) should segment the kids by their ability.
