        We would like to apply for the Form One Discretionary Places entry 2006 at your school for our daughter, (applicant’s name).

(Applicant’s name) is currently studying at xxxxxxxx School. She is an intelligent child with keen insight, creative thinking, sound analytical and problem solving abilities. In the World Class Tests, she has passed with “Distinction” in both of the Mathematics and Problem Solving Papers and graded “Excellent” in all the 10 particular skills assessed.

She has also a good command of English. She has been awarded with all the 15 shields for the 3 skills assessed in the Cambridge YLE Flyers Test.

Her interests and hobbies are diversified. She has participated in different extra-curricular activities. She has joined the swimming class and Community Youth Club. She is also a member of the school basketball team.

She loves music. She got “Distinction” in the Grade 3 Piano Examination, Grade 5 Piano Examination and Grade 5 Theory of Music Examination of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. She always puts high expection on herself and pursues perfection. Indeed, she achieves it all the times in both academic and non-academic assessments.

To provide more information on (Applicant)’s character and achievements, we attach the following documents for your reference please:-

(i)        Principal’s recommendation letter;
(ii)        Personal portfolio (without attachments); and
(iii)        Photocopies of the school reports of the three previous years.

Dear All,

I've struggled for a long time whether I should send the sample out, for the following reasons:-

(i) the letter to the principal should be a specific one, tailor-made to suit the particular requirements and features of the school that you are applying;

(ii) The letter should adequately highlight the strengths of the applicant and therefore should be unique.

A"sample" letter, if not suitably modified, will be "harmful" to the application.

So, please just treat the attached letter as a reference only.

Finally, wish you all successful in the application.
