準備留英注意事項

兩年前喺B K呢度得到好多有用嘅資訊，我集合左前輩嘅資料加上自己嘅經驗，整理咗幾個checklists，依家就喺呢度公開同大家分享。


純分享，不喜勿插！


表1 - 時間表

January

school visit (see sperate check list)

meet with potential Guardians during school visit week (see  separate check list)

shopping during school visit week          學校洗完 d 衫褲都會用乾衣機乾衣。d 衫褲或校服便會縮水。大家為子女買衣服時便要預大1-2個碼， 因要預佢哋增高和衫褲縮水。咁就煩，香港穿開的衣服未吾可以帶去.  Sports Dixxxx sports shoes, many stores and  many options (can buy in Aug not Jan cos takes up lots of space.           buy duvet, beddings, towels, socks, underwear, 防水羽絨 / 大褸 at John Lexxx /  Marks & Spxxxxx  for better  quality.  low price luggage at Debenxxx  Department store, also check Clarks for boys.         Pros: wash before use, and put on name tags.  Low price during on sales, has tax refund.         Cons: need to bring back to UK again

mobile sim         Agree mobile data allowance in advance.         we use Giffgaxx, you may order it and send to HK, so that you can keep the  number if the network is good at the school area.         You don't need to pay during the half term or term break but you can keep  the same number.

Passport :  check expiry date, renew in advance if less  than 4 years (start study from year 9), one visa for year 9 to 11 and then  another visa for year 12-13.

February

student bundle ticket offers more luggage allowance and  unlimited change, extra charge for upper booking class.         I didn't buy bundle tickets.  If  parents go to help school starts, should have enough luggage allowance.  MarcoPolo member allows one additional  luggage.

倒頭飛 (e.g. Heathrow-HK; HK-Heathrow) is cheaper, £6xx CX  2018,  £7xx CX 2019 for round  trip.           Air Passenger Duty (APD) 是航班附加費 (for passengers below 16，是英國政府對離境客人收取，不關航空公司事)  around HK$800.   Has to call airline to  calculate & deduct the tax before book / issue ticket.         be mindful the departure and arrival dates **, most night flight departs HK  arrive UK the next day.

book Oct-Nov half term flights (2 weeks in HK)

book Dec-Jan flights, the most expensive ticket, around £1000  round trip. (3 weeks in HK)

book Feb half-term (10 days) - stay in host family or come back  to HK or meet in Europe for a leisure trip.

book Mar-Apr term flight (about 1 month in HK)

book May half-term (10 days, host family or come back to HK

book July end of term flight (summer holiday)

open banking account     most common banks that HK parents use are HSBC / BEA.   Book in advance as it takes 1-2 months to  wait and process.         They need school offer letter to open overseas parent account & teen  account.         Issue debit card (also serve ATM purpose),   UK checking account (parents only) & UK cyber banking (parents  & child all seperate account).         Any follow up will be directly with BEA UK.   Receive cards from UK in April.

confirm guardian and follow up host family profile

March

prepare last 10 year travel record for visa application.  can't recall what exactly they need.  I believe date - don't think they need time  / country / city.   Don’t forget China,  Macau, Taiwan travel which no chops in passport.

Unaccompanied Minor form.   if you really worry your child to travel alone, you can pay for this  service but need to collect form from airline office first.  CX also offer "meet and assist"  service, I think staff just walk you from check in counter to boarding gate,  it's free of charge.

check if study agent helps to complete student visa  application.  Fee HKD300 in 2018.

receive briefing pack from school.  Lots of things to read and forms to fill.

book train / bus (National Express) ticket (mobile apps are very  user friendly, e ticket shows in the app), keep tracking availability for all  travel arrangement. usually 2 months in advance for lowest price.         If school / guardian offer coach transfer to and from the airport, then you  may not need to book train / bus.

我也是用 Exx 的 guardian 公司，我都十分滿意，她們有商有量，當我有什麼不懂，都是找她們問，包括我已經移民來了後，她繼續也有幫我呢！

CAS letter ，就要睇那間學校收你的孩子在那裏讀幾多年。如果只是在該學校讀兩年，VISA 批出都只有兩年，同時出VISA 時也一起繳交兩年NHS。你收到 學校給你的 CAS letter 便知道 VISA會批出幾多年了。
如果 Yr 7，好大機會是五年。那麼就申請 VISA 時收五年 NHS 費用了。如果完成yr 11 繼續在該學校升讀 yr 12的話，學校就會再出 CAS letter 給你，暑假回來香港就再次申請一次VISA，再繼續交 NHS費用。通常很多學校，最多批出讀到yr 11，因為很多學校會視乎學生的成績是否能夠在該校升讀 yr 12，之後再會出信給你。不過每間學校情況不同，不能一概而論。
我好佩服 meemeefung 寫得那麼詳細，勁！不過我建議床單被鋪在 M&S 網上買，來到英國是在學校附近city 或 Town 的M&S 取貨，慳返啲行李重量，而且較適合英國 size 。文具就一定要在香港買定回來，一來價錢平，二來是好用，尤其是買塗改帶，因為英國賣得很貴，也不是常見。毛巾也是一定要在香港買，香港的毛巾質料好過英國。黑皮鞋我建議來英國後去 Clark 買，一句說話「平」。

因應每間學校應該有所不同。
例如我女兒第一年開學有Offer之後，就要立刻交第一期學費。之後九月開學第二期會在聖誕節前繳交，第三期通常在三月 long term break 前繳交。而另外第2 年會在暑假前六月繳交。

申請visa唔一定要用agent,我申請過tier 4 child同tier 4 general,都係自己嚟。上網開account,然後慢慢填資料。每一個part都可以填完後save, logout,之後第二日再login繼續,submit之前可以改,可以check N 次。今年學校強制下被迫用agent,有同校家長話佢信曬agent自己冇去check,結果資料有誤,ㄧ镬泡,所以agent開account後我都係自己填資料同其他。用唔用agent自己決定,但記住ㄧ定要問agent攞password自己login睇清楚佢有冇填錯。今年亦有有用agent嘅EK家中招,要重新申請,詳情請爬舊帖。

visa centre已搬去北角,不再在CWB,請update資料。

申請visa應該唔洗帶相(有錯請指教),上到去入房即時影,帶梳/鏡。

	tips from BK / parents' forums
1	全年要穿校褸，夏天早會 要穿，平時當地墊用坐草地上，好粗用的。。。學校及宿舍有暖氣，多一件羽纖怕落雪穿。。。
2	一件防水羽絨大褸，最好係深藍或黑色呢兩種百搭色，有帽更佳。Size要略大一點，方便裏面著校服(中學)或西裝(大學)。建議係英國買，平D同更適合當地天氣。
3	M&S 我昨日去行，佢d野都好靚，£17的被袋+枕袋都好滑 M&S買校服質素好D，在八月尾學課前有特價，抵過香港買。英國9月天氣通常20度以下，英國校服無分冬天褲夏天褲，如果可以，去英國M&S買，顏色、厚薄及質素都很適合，反而香港買的衫褲好多都唔係好岩，英國啲校服褲一年四季都可以著，褲頭可以調鬆緊，就算阿仔肥左少少都冇問題，買時特別要留意褲內長，有時有啲褲有兩三個長度可以選，另外網上買，尺碼較齊全，選去分店取，會比直接去分店買方便，試過幾次分店冇所要的尺碼。

10	碰到Superdry半價，買咗件褸俾亞囡，自己買咗頂抓毛𥚃冷帽。呢度D風好勁，我只有羽絨褸連住嘅帽，但係成日被風吹起，第一日落機吹兩吹就中咗招，所以睇啱就買。
11	開學前,d 大型超市 super store 如 tesco, sainsbury 及 瑪沙都有一些普遍的校服賣，例如淨藍色，淨灰色的冷衫，裙，長短褲，白衫， polo,  socks,  都好平，我覺得平過香港添，而床單被袋都一樣， 質料都ok架，至於校褸如果買了學校同色的，可買校章加上去就可以了。 佢地吾岩着時，你可放在學校二手店賣，然後自行决定要買新的定舊的，有人買後會比返錢你的，高年班書都一樣，我本人好欣賞佢地環保文化。因為校褸真係好貴。至於名貼，呢面有燙上衣服的，超貼的，然後再寫名，當然用防水筆寫，如果忘記帶名label, 可考慮用。其他如 wellington boot， 香港貴過呢面，當年買左呀仔無用過，而且呢面一街都有得賣，到時同 house parent 講，佢地會帶你去買的。
12	我亞女話，一件 Gore-Tex 加抓毛外套就得，唔建議買羽絨，佢話果邊無乜人著羽絨，亞女去英國三年，都係著件 Gore-Tex 唔夠10次，可能佢喺西南部較暖，不過去行山露營會有用，我三年前喺一間開倉買，Gore-Tex + 抓毛外套
13	如果你要長期係室外（行去上堂／出市中心），係 11 月前係英國商店買大縷 （Parka／Padded Coat／Bomber Jacket）。Parka 係有帽嘅防風防雪縷。Bomber Jacket 就係普通防風縷，十幾度颳風果陣著。Padded Coat （又叫 Quilted Jacket）就係我地香港平日見開嘅羽絨，可以長到落地下，全身保暖。
14	我通常都係見外國人著 Parka 同 Bomber Jacket，有少數著 Padded Coat。
15	如果學校近超市，基本上大部份物品可以去到英國先買：
16	1. 文具超市一定有，留意原子筆買黑色，另外建議習慣少用塗改帶/塗改液，因為考試要用黑色筆及唔可以用塗改帶等。
17	2. 波鞋、皮鞋英國買平啲，質素好啲，以前放假去英國都買一兩對鞋.
18	Sudafed 唔䥀，佢有分只係通鼻塞,只係收鼻涕，頭痛加通鼻。我女話好過clarityne,聽日會帶埋去學校。
19	杯面更加可在英網上訂到。今年寄東西去英國，香港郵局有隻EC ship， 先上網登記，平及快很多。而且是上網可追蹤郵件。另朋友寄新物件要打稅，就算舊嘢，最好價值寫平D。 如果物件要打稅，他們要出郵局搞手續。
20	我昨晚報的郵費記錯左，係 2百幾 今日再去郵局，轉買一個郵袋寄，抽起一條短褲，3個杯麵再磅，又係話 2百幾嘅 問下職員啦，職員問返我，你當包裛寄，定文件寄呀，我R 哂頭，隔離有人教我，叫我話文件寄，平好多架，而家我只係$113 咋 原來話文件寄會平好多架，之前都唔識，差d比貴左呀
21	我試過用牛皮公文袋寄衫褲，照寫舊衣服，用保鮮袋包一包，兩件恤衫$4x, 另一次3條運動褲2件丅 shirt, $8x。以文件形式寄出。

	表 5 - study visa requirement
1	last 10 year travel record e.g. start date, end date, country & location
2	bank statement with issue date within 1 month (no less than HKD300,000 cash in account more than 28 days).   It's not required in 2018 but I still prepared.  You may ask your bank to make such special arrangement, they charge a little.
3	on-line application form You can do it by yourself or some agents helped to fill out.  Very easy to make mistakes at this part on your own per BK / parents forum and could cause huge problem / delay / re-apply.   In any cases, need to check thoroughly, not just depend on agent.

7	bring current passport DO NOT travel during the application, as you won't be able to get back the passport until issue the visa unless you have a 2nd passport.
