Your answer is totally correct, don't worry!
In primary one, the commutative property of addition viz. a+b = b+a has been taught though not explicitly but concept conveyed!
So 6 + 40 + 900 is totally correct!

Yes, 考 "位值相加", but don't you think most students can check the most significant digit value at first glance without thinking, or they usually need counting and saying 個,十,百,千,萬 and so forth before they can identify the answer!

For writing the 個位 first, they just write down the answer as they count and think right???  It is intuitively to write 個位 first, 十位 second, and so on right???

Substance is much more important than form!
