冇話邊個語言is better 嘅....
而且, eng/chinese stream 每星期得2hrs of japanese / french.
imagine 40 weeks of school per year makes 80hrs per year x 6 years. so less than 500hrs of these 3rd language after primary school.
what i want to say is if you can assistance your child at home with one of these languages, you should then chose this language, because it will really help him to practise more in real life.
otherwise, the child will only can have a notion of this language within 6 years.
he or she may need to continue to learn the language in secondary school in order to speak or write in the future.

French is written with the 26 letters of the Latin alphabet.
French is a descendant of the Latin language of the Roman Empire, as are national languages such as Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Romanian, and minority languages ranging from Occitan to Neapolitan.
you already knew Mandarin is most spoken language in the world. followed by Spanish (2nd) and English (3rd).
Japanese is actually the 9th with 130 million native + 2 million second language = 132 million total!
French with 128 million “native and real speakers" (includes 64,473,140 French people) and 72 million "bilinguals". More than 200 total both native and second language.  Not including partial speakers, and up to 450+ million total with significant knowledge of the language.  French is the 4th most spoken language in the world when including second language speakers.

wondering how many % of chinese students will study French . . . I tend to choose French for my girl, but am afraid that most chinese students will pick Japanese. . .

如果中國籍的學生讀法文是少數, 又如何?

When majority of Chinese students are taking Japanese, I am afraid my girl would question why she's in French stream.  Being in a minority group in a community is a challenge.  Nothing about good or bad, but just a mum's worry.  I am not a racist.

讀日文的學生一定比學法文的多, 其中一個主要因素係香港受日本影響相對比法國深. 但如果講到有用, 個人認為法文會比日本普及.

至於你所擔心嘅問題, 我認為不是一個問題囉, minority group in a community is not a challenge, and afterall, I think your girl will not be the minority in school if she is a Chinese.

btw, my daughter is in French stream :)

Cannot agree more about this, so that's why I would like to enroll her to the French stream.  How do you help your daughter re French?  I am finding  some elementary French learning pack to study first.  Maybe I should ask Frostangraphy some recommendation.

我自己都唔識法文o架, 咁呀女初初讀嗰時咪俾佢去法國文化協會補習囉, 之不過唔見有特別進步 (應該係一班人太多, 老師照顧唔到咁多個), 後來去咗一間小型嘅補習社 (但好似話而家已經冇法文補習班了), 只得兩個小朋友學法文, 所以導師跟進得比較好, 呀女明顯進步咗.  而家就係自己上網搵咗個補習老師每星期上門補個半至兩個鐘.

人老咗, 邊樹有記性呀, 本來同呀女講, 佢學咗乜野就教我啦 (其實係想佢認真學習, 等佢返到屋企教老豆, 佢自己覺得有野老豆唔識嘅, 感覺良好咪俾心機囉), 點知學一數到十, 噚日學完今日已經唔記得 , 還好小朋友嘅語言學習能力真係唔同 d, 而家基本上都應付到, 雖然唔會最高分, 應該都算中上卦, 可能你唔知, 我呀女係三年級插班生, 所以係比同班同學學少咗兩年嘅.

我朋友個妹o係陳守仁教, 佢話法文同日文都係咁多人揀, 每級大約有三班法文兩班日文, 不過我覺得都係睇小朋友興趣,佢有興趣,自然學得開心d, 我好鍾意陳守仁的第三語言政策,不過唔知阿仔出年入唔入到. 而家仲頭痛緊揀多幾間學校,in 多幾間, 好似多d機會.
