I also have this question in my mind.  My son had attained the interview last month in SFA.  My overall impression of SFA is very good except the location in Shek Kei Mei.

Alliance has high academic level and has outstanding music education.  The location in Kowloon Tong is very good too.  But it is not an English primary school, even my friend said there will be a native-speaker headteacher and a local headteacher in each P.1 class for the coming academic year. (I'm not sure is it true.)

Be honest, my son is a high intelligence kid and has talent for music.  He owns IQ130 and acquired Distinction in Grade 2 piano practical exam this year.  I really hope all of you will not think me as a real ham.  I merely want to tell more about my son, and you lads can give me some opinions between these two schools.

You guys may think it's too early to think about that since Alliance's interview hasn't come yet.  But, I want to collect more information.

Parents in SFA and Alliance can give me some comments?  How to choose between them?

You only want to compare 辛苦? or the result of 辛苦?

My daughter is studying SFA for P.3 (she just changed in current year).  She changed from an active learning school which she felt happy but learnt limited.

Be honestly, it is quite hard both of student and parents.  But I want 辛苦 now rather than 辛苦 in Secondary school.

或者我講講聖方濟各對資優生的情況吧.

(以下所知,係從學校的簡介會得知,實際情況尚不知,因為
小兒未到三年級).

聖方濟各是有資優班的(三年級開始),入資優班的條件是 :

1. IQ有120以上,所以若自已已同小朋友做過測試評估的,
    可於入學時報給學校知,佢地會列做資優生.

2. 從每科中選出最優異成績的幾位(一二年級),
    (中文科,英文科,音樂科,體育科,數學科....每一科)
     列入資優班.

*資優班是會於課外的時間,集中/加強培訓,所以正規常班係
沒有精英班的.

對資優生的培訓,可入學校的網,好似有詳細介紹的,據我所知,之前幾年對資優生的安排跟今年的是不一樣的,以前好似
係選一班去培訓的.....他們有一群老師是專責資優培訓的.

My son is studying at SFA P1.  He has great improvement in both spoken and written English within just two months' time.  He started to compose English stories at home.  This might not sound too amazing to some parents as lots of kids write English stories at kinder. But to me, that's good enough as he did this out of his own initiatives and I know his improvement is not attributed to an English-speaking environment at home (I'm a working mom and my son speaks Mandarin with daddy)

One more point, SFA has gifted education.

或者補充一點,至於地點方面,小朋友都是上車下車,問題
應該唔大,始終是老校,在所難免的了.

記得頭幾個星期,帶小朋友星期六返課外活動,放左佢入學校,
而自已就唔知去邊好, 附近又無地方逛逛或坐坐..都幾困擾,
幸好一星期後,學校給予家長申請圖書証,所以現在小兒返
學上課外活動,我就係學校的圖書館睇書等他,對我來講係
一個非常好的安排. 哈哈.

My son did the IQ Assessment Test at a Psychoeducational Practice Centre in North Point.
The fee is $2,400.  The appropriate age for the test is above 5 years old.

Dear Coma,

I'm pretty concern about the P.E. lesson arrangment  in SFA.

Since my son is not good at sport activities, no matter running, swimming, and playing football, he performs quite bad and lacks of bouncing ability. I'm afraid the school forces each kid to learn at least one kind of sport.  Does SFA has this policy and arrangement?

I heard someone said SFA arranges swimming lesson in public swimming pool every week.  Is this true?

Can you tell me more about SFA?  Why did you choose SFA for your kid?

Dear Anna Leung,

因為小兒只是小一,所以不能提供太詳細的資料,
就這兩個月來,學校並沒有對學生在運動上有
所要求,反而在音樂上就鼓勵一人一樂器,但
都不是強迫性的.

至於游水方面,暫時來說,都是學校與私人泳會合作,
在九龍灣私人會所有游泳課外活動堂,但都是自由參
加的.(若你聽聞的,會不會是已被選入校隊的操練課
程呀)

就現在的觀感,學校方面除了非常注重英文的基礎
訓練外,其他對小一生都沒有什麼側重,個人就相信
學校方面唔會對運動唔好的小朋友而有所偏見,反
而覺得會就小朋友的長處,而幫他們發展.

到目前為止,我對學校都非常滿意,比我想像好得多 (並不是
傳言中的嚴肅,太大壓力....)

至於為何會選此校,相信各人的要求,同各小朋友的性格都不
盡相同,或者我俾小小意見,若你的小朋友現在做功課是很主動
的,默書不用你操心的,他應該會比較容易跟到學校的步伐.

SFA 英文書讀高一年,但測驗卷程度高兩年，很多課外英文文法沒有教，要平時做多些，中和數亦很深。一至四年班都易應付，但到五六年班明顯難很多，功課亦多。如果但求入BAND ONE 則不太辛苦(130 名內)，但要保持頭三十名則較難。

學校是用cycle制的,英文科的節數比較多,
佢地的課本都是跟其他學校一樣,但就會
另有GE note, 學garmmar,有Eng Lit (reader and oral)
全年分三個學期, 1st term 讀1A, 2nd term讀1B,
3rd term 讀 2A...如此類推,到3年級就會用4年級的英文課本,六年級就讀中一的英文.

每cycle會有dict.,若你小朋友跟到學校的進度,我相信
英文底子係會不錯的.

學校教的方法,是有步驟的,初初的garmmar
都係is am are, has, have, 小小past tenses咁,
但真係要家長有時間,跟貼一點,make sure佢地明白,otherwise,好易跟唔上.(因為教得比較快的,所以
小朋友要吸收得快,先會跟到),當然,若唔係太緊張
成績,問題都唔係太大.

例子, 小兒以前從未接觸過英文天主經的,返左一個月學,
現在他的英文天主經朗朗上口,讀英語時的語調,似模似
樣.有時都幾開心呀. 但都有同學仔,每次默書都唔合格,
唔明外語老師上堂講野,而無心機上堂的.

至於功課,雖然每天手冊都寫上好多樣 (英文功課係佔
多數的),但實際上要做的不是太多,因為有一半係改正,
若前一日的功課,小心一點,已小了一半功課,另一些可能係老師提醒小朋友要做的野,實際的功課跟其他津校都差不多,
約三四樣(不計改正),中文詞語都係幾行,英文句子幾行...初初最難適應的,可算是英文撩草copybook要寫二至三版(但都是星期五先寫的).
經過統計,大部份的小朋友一個小時都會完成都功課,
有些快的,在學校的class-teacher lesson都可以完成
好的.但都有些要做深夜（因為佢地的幼稚園時係無默書,
無功課的).

若小朋友係比較定和自學性的,應該不用太擔心.

I like SFA but their school campus is quite small seems not have too much space for the kids. May I know whether there is enough extra activities for the students (for example, swimming, dancing, basketball so so)

校舍方面無疑是比不上現在的新校合,至於課外
活動,我見都有好多,和其他學校差不太遠,但大
多都是小三以上才可參加,所以還未詳細研究,
台拳,table-tennis, football,swimming.....
樂器...朗誦...小童軍....美術....奧數..英文...
都有呀.......
