My son got 13 shields. He took the exam a few days right after his 5th birthday. He got 5 shields in reading, but only 4 in listening as well as speaking.

In fact, I was quite surprised that he got only 4 in speaking as many people say it is the easiest one and my son told me that he answered all the questons asked by the examiner. Do you think whether the kids need to give complete sentences when giving responses to the examiner. I just taught my son to give simple answers.

You can buy the past papers from British Council, Commercial Press or Joint Publishers. You don't need to join any course, as it's too expensive and time-consuming. Self-study is OK.

Sorry for my late reply!! Actually, Starters 1, 2 ...6  means that there are six editions of the books. Each edition contains different sets of papers. So, Starters 1 is completely different from Starters 2 and so on.

I do agree that the materials are expensive but the kids really need practice. And if you keep them clean, you can re-sell them. As more and more kids are taking this test, I think some parents may be interested in the second hand books.
