Hi Critic and all,

I've gone thru the communications and views and  I'm happy to see so many gifted and smart children here.  They're pillars of tomorrow!

I'm a full time mum and my son (19months now) started learning Cantonese, English & Mandarin at the same time since he was born.  He's doing fine and smart (in mum's eyes) but not gifted, i guess.  I'm really impressed by you all as you're so resourceful and devoted to educating your children.   The future of HK will become brighter provided that you don't emigrate.

I see some of you are group-ordering Leapfrog & Wee Sing ...am i too late? Will Critic place the 2nd order in the coming future? Where can I buy those in HK and where's the cheapest? Can anyone also suggest me good educational materials suitable for 19 m old bb as i want to catch up w/ you all and be more systematic in teaching my son at home.

My son is very playful and doesn't like reading books.  He can hardly sit down for a while.  Though he picks up things very fast and has good memory(know around 200 Eng words when he was 16-17m), I'm afraid this will hinder his development and acquisition of knowledge.  I tried many ways .. eg. go thru books w/ him, story telling, bring him to library once a week...any yet he still focuses on his toys esp cars, trains, buses... etc.  Do you have any suggestions on how to develop reading habbit? Should I hide most of the toys?

Happy Birthday to your "king".  You're really tough and capable as you can manage to work, do all the housework & cooking and take care of you BB.  Even though I'm a full time mum, I still need a maid to help me out.

First of all, Happy Birthday to your son.  Did you finally have a party for him?

Thanks in advance for the weblink.  I look forward to receiving it.  Really glad to discuss with you on child education, I learnt a lot from you.  You know, I thought you are a full time mom, but you are not and you still can do so many researches and spend so much time with him.  I really admire you.

All moms want to give our child the best we can, but given the fact that a lot of us need to work during the day (esp me, who is the major financial support of the family), I sometimes feel so guilty.  I know I shouldn't as I have done my best, but I am sure she will be brought up better than she is if I am a full time mom.

I have not received the LeapFrong from my friend, she lives and works far away from me and my little darling is still too young for it.

Oh, I missed a trip to the bookstore when I last visited Bangkok.  Might need to wait for at least a year.  I would really appreciate if you don't mind doing me a favour by buying some books for me during your next trip to Bangkok and PM me.  If not, please forget it.  I know you might not have time.

My daughter is still not talking, just making sounds like ma ma ma, da da da and she is already 15 months old.  I understand it might due to the fact that we are bilingual or may be trilingual (+filipino), but I do hope that I can communicate with her shortly.

這套ＤＶＤ真的很好，很生鬼不會悶，我個仔看完又要再看（我個仔三歲幾），我自己都覺得很好看。雖然比較快（如你所說是for外國人�以英文為母語會比較好），好在我們平時都有與呀仔以英語對話，他都跟到。

I'm glad that you & your son like it!  It's worth, isn't it? Not that expensive and give them a headstart on phonics.  Is your son starting to spell/sing out loud? My son will stop & spell whenever he sees printed letter.   I hope Leapfrog will make more educational DVDs, e.g. Maths etc...

以教學概念來看，這套教材真的物有所值。我個仔看什麼東西都不會跟著發聲，如果是有趣的他就會跟著笑，希望遲些會跟著說啦。

我現在都在找尋可以教他數字方面的教材，我見有個topic 提到有一套三本的Maths Master的書，好像很好，HK$30一本for age +3, +5 and +7（中文版），英文版要HK$100本，我打算去看吓。

在自然科學方面，我見有人提過National Geographic有套Reading Program，但太貴了，所以我都是決定放棄。

希望遲些Leapfrog會出其他方面的教材啦。

I don't like the Maths Master. They're pop up books but the layout & design (I did not look at the content) are not attractive, like a mess.

For 自然科學方面, don't waste your money! Use free websites:

Thanks your information，放工後我去書店一看，真的很不合我的要求，也如你所說那樣。後來反而買了本National Geographic's "The Earth Pack"，真是一本很靓的書，它把Volcano, Hurricane, Avalanche, Tsunami, Wildfire and Earthquake都活現在9 inch high pop-out的紙模型上，很精美，而且有很全面的解釋，它還有個立體地球加一盒30 mins audiocassette（對我來說是沒用，因我沒有cassette機），特價HK$99。呀仔一見到本書便立即要開，跟著整晚變成問題兒童，雖然有些應接不下，但很開心，因買了本呀仔有興趣的書。

今晚等我個仔睡了才可以到個website看吓！Thank a lot.

你是如何分配你的時間？我每天回到家都成八點，如果真的可以與呀仔一起，每天只得一至兩個鐘，真的不夠用，星期六又要打點自己的事情，真正可以與他一起坐定定都只有星期日，但他又要求去街玩。

做父母真的不易，由其是在職父母。

Can you show us where you bought the "National Geographic's "The Earth Pack"?  Would like to go to the bookshop and take a look.

I do agree that Critic is a powerful lady who can manage to do the busy work in office, housework and teaching her son so systematically.

Hi,
I found there is a Leapfrog Corner in Park'n Shop(superstore) yesterday. There are Leapfrog Alphabet Pal, Toys, Electronic books... etc. A promoter there to introduct the products too. I think there will have some more Leapfrog products coming up.

The Park'n Shop is in Tin Shui Wai, Ginza Plaza (天水圍銀座)
I don't know if there are same Leapfrog corners elsewhere in Park'n Shops.

Hi Amy,

I never seen this toy before? Is it only for your country? or it is an old version?

I have an old version phonics travellers, which is also very good, but my son hits it too often, it is becoming mal-functioning. As you said, the sounds is very clear.

Page One is selling a collection of DK color board board, the famous My First Book Collection.

Exactly same as the english version, in Chinese & english. However, printing quality is not as good as the English, but only $38/book. (English one is $79)

If you have not stock up any books from DK, please take a look!

They have :
