Actually, my kid is studying P. 3 and therefore I am drinking the same cup of tea as you!   

I opine that this thread will be more beneficial to Wah Yan parents if we could openly share and discuss more on Wah Yan's school policies (positive or negative) not just only promoting eating, drinking, buying, going on picnic, etc. (they occupy more than 90% of the space)

Otherwise, this thread will be less attractive.  Sorry for my sincere advice again!  

We should think about and address the message posted by motheroffour.  It's really true as far as I know!  The current situation has been alarming to many parents and the school management.

I'm not your school's parent, but I have read your messages here, I found out that you are all united as one big family, which of course is a good sign to everybody especially to your children.  I admire the way you have contributed the thoughts and sharings.

By the way, I am not a regular church goer but I often took my children to Christ the King Chapel (St. Paul's Convent) to hear mass at 11:15am session.  

I understand Lun Mama is a Paulinian, and I am too!

我對於結龍真係不予厚望…75%真有難度。
不達標華中要變中中…佢地唔制既…..
我相信唔止我地，其他直屬中小學一樣有呢個隱憂。

If the present situation remains unchanged (I mean if the school cannot or is still inertia to implement a drastically reform on English curriculum as to improve students' proficiency in English w.r.t. writing, reading, communicating and listening skills), the un-pegging of the primary school from Wah Yan College will inevitably happen in the near future.  

Wah Yan College is used to put the blame on the poor English standard of the P. 6 students intaking from primary section.  Indeed, their Principal has done minimal measures as to improve the overall English standard of their students and strengthen the curriculum of other subjects for the school as a whole.  The recent External School Review Report as posted in their website has pin-pointed the major deficiencies of the school.  What's a shameful argument given by Mr. Tam!   

Having said that, we should openly review our school's and students' deficiency.  Do our students perform well in particular for their English proficiency?  Does the school have any strategy or policy to rectify the current situation?  Do the PTA members propose any pro-active suggestions for the school management's consideration?  All these issues should be addressed immediately without delay.  Otherwise, it will be too late to change.  Indeed, all students and parents are now situated at a very critical  moment!

According to the new placement system for secondary school places to be enacted in 2010 just announced yesterday, the seats reserved for the P. 6 students would be drastically reduced from current 80% to 50%!  The present P. 5 students will be the first batch of students to be likely affected under the new policy.

其實呢個教改方案，點只針對英文一科呢？
接龍之中學要有75%，才可繼續為英文中學。
當中評定的不只英文一科達標，
而是中、英、數三科...要力改的，何止一科英文。
今年份中文(一)卷，聽講級級都多人滑鐵盧，
看來學校正在加深課程，我地家長都要一齊加把勁。
不過好多間直屬中學都唔肯接龍，唔接龍便要脫鈎了，
咁到時便是汰弱留強的時候。
如果..我話如果啫...真的有脫鈎的一天，
我地咪好似其他沒有聯系小學一樣，
比心機幫助個仔考好D，化悲傷為力量。
呢個政府推一條龍又出個75%打對台，
都係想D學校轉直資啫，華仁一定唔會轉架喇。

覺得與其坐以待斃，而千尋如果你有好建議，
何不向校方反映呢？

我都唔希望我所寫既野嚇親大家，
不過呢D真係我地面對既問題。
但我總覺得華仁真係一間好好既學校，
起碼我個野人仔學識關懷同埋體諒別人。
有人好著緊學術成績，有人注重全人發展，
我諗點都好，我都支持一切決定的。

As uncleedward said, the system is changing into an elite system for the 'affluent'. The old system has its merits, if you put your heart at work, study well, every body has an equal chance.

So funny system in Hong Kong. May be because it is examination oriented, and schools with good open exam results became famous. Old schools have more records of producing good results.

Imagine, if universities do not count heavily on academic exam results, will the system become heavier.

Although the school has so many hurdles, traditional or historical barriers to overcome, a good sign is that the school is moving now!

Whilst we should prepare for the worst scenario, the un-pegging will not affect the status of old students.  It only affects new coming students.

Nothwithstanding the above, we, as a parent, should try our best and work hard to upbringing our boys and equip them in all-around to fight the battle!

當然，大家都想孩子既路好行一點，
如果唔係大家唔使四圍搵資料。
我都認為，在社會上可被取締者，
永遠是最先被”丁”走的。
孩子現階段承受壓力，是好是壞？
看來唔同年代有唔同睇法。
特別現在家長們都想孩子「愉快上學」。
名津校生水準下降都有跡可尋，
大量接收直屬生都有其好壞之處，
而家呢個小一大抽獎更將情況變得更….
所以我地先要做好自己唔好”也也烏”！！
