Do all these preparation HAVE to cost a lot o money? Rich kids watch $40k DWE English program. Poor ... Shadeslayer
You actually have touched on the keyelement. It’s not about money per se. It’s about the parents’ 識見. If 入皇仁has to entail more than just filling out a form, 黄仁龍's father probably would not have been willing to go through the troubles. The poor kids can excel in 街坊 primary schools (I alwaysthink studying in an elite primary school is unnecessary). A lot of people here said that they did all the application by themselves in the old days for the 升中試 stuff since their parents could not have been of any real help. I imagine, however, their teachers had suggested to them what schools to apply for and they had mostly followed their advice.
For really bright kids, getting admission to good DSS schools may actually involve a lot less work than what most parents are doing, but writing a simple cover letter and preparing a simple resume is still very much a daunting task for uneducated parents. Some EK parents also ask for help here every now and then on this.
Now we see 協恩 and 聖保祿中學 are joining the DSS group, it is just inevitable we will see more and more traditional elite schools change sides. I'm less optimistic than you about the opportunities for poor kids. |
