The cost for books is around $189x.xx- and plus $79.5 for the plastic book covers, you have to prepare for $2,000 for books and $140 for e-reading.(e-reading is optional but I think most of the students will join)
4R is correct that in the first round, St Mary's accpeted 64 students and the total number of seats are around 124. I also have friend with 20 marks not being accepted in the first round.
Though the nubmer look less, but you have to remember that Canossian's Angel student will also come to St. Mary's College later, so you can image how big a class in F1 it will be, so taking less P1 students is not a bad arrangement.
With less students, for those admitted are good since there will only be around 30-32 students in each class. Smaller class is better.
They will also push the parents to ensure the girls are good enough. I heard that parents are receiving calls from school today to meet with teachers this week if the girl did not perform well in the test last Saturday (parent's day). They are really serious.
[/quote]
I'm not quite sure whether there is a formal anouncement regarding the total numbers of P1 students of SMCS and HACS this year. But maybe we can do some interesting arithmatic according to the info collected.
The mode of "Through train" re SMCS is "two to one", i.e. SMCS and HACS to SMCC. According to the info at the website of HKecity, as at May 2004, the numbers of P1 students in SMCS and HACS are 136 and 105 respectively. The number of S1 in SMCC was 240, six classes, not mentioned when, perhaps also up to May 2004. It means, then, the total number of P1 students of the two primary schools almost equaled to that of S1 in SMCC. In order to comply with the guide of "Through train", say, the secondary school should reserve not less than 15% of their total number of S1 places for outsiders after deducting 5% of the places for the repeaters, the schools has two alternatives, increasing the places of S1 or reducing the number of P1. Because each class of S1 has already 40 students, it is more easily to choose the latter. That is what we see now. P1 places of SMCS is less than ever before, to around 120, and that of HACS is around 90. I think the exact number of P1 students in SMCS will be learned after school opening. Anyway, around 30 students each class is really quite good.
