You mean the case in RC?  Or ESF schools?
As I've got wait list letters from RC and ESF SJS.  But they are quite different.  It seems that the wait list letter of RC have higher chance but for SJS's letter, have no chance(the secretary told me over phone that they will assign priority no. only after summer holiday).  And the wait list letter from SJS mentioned about ...."the language ability of your child is not up to standard.....) but that from RC did not mentioned..  I am so confused and worried about that.  Any body knows?

My son is in Cat 1, but he has no siblings nor any parents in the alumni.  What happened then is that he has no interview from KJS at all.  In fact, I should foresee thiswhen he has no interview for ESF Kindergarten at Tsing Yi a few years ago.  That should tell me that the application for KJS or ESF schools in Kowloon will be packed with tons of applications.  Anyway, I am pleased that he just got admitted to RC.

I think more parents or parents-to-be should read the International Section in this forum because I still meet nowadays parents thinking that as long as you have money or you hold a foreign passport, the kid will definitely get into an International School.

I wish all the best to those who are in the waiting lists.  But to be honest, I will definitely have contingency plan.  Try to talk to your kid's principle and see what advices he/she can give you.  Staying one more year at your present school and hope to get admitted a year later may not be a smart move nowadays.

Delia Canada will accept application in May 2012.  I do not know anything about this school, but it is a through-train school.

Good luck!

kcvtsai  Thanks for the advice... and congrats to you for getting into RC

I'm a bit surprised that as Cat 1, you didn't even get an interview at ESF...  發表於 12-2-10 10:22

It was my son who had 3 interviews at RC last year. The letter stated that his English skill might not be sufficient to cope with school and suggested me to enrol him in some courses to brush up his English skills. I emailed the school asking which aspects of skills he was lacking, oral, writing or reading. And the school replied they would only test their oral skills.

I was relieved in a way after that email because I knew my son's spoken English should be sufficient to pass the interview  (He cried during interview and was taken away from the interview room put himself in a rather disadvantageous position.) Instead of taking him to English course, I took him to a couple of "soclal skill" "EQ" courses.

I don't know about the contents of the 3 interviews as my son could hardly tell me anything about it.

I am afraid your letter may indicate that you didn't pass the SJS interview.  If I were you, is to secure the place at RC... N maybe not give too much hopes for SJS... Cuz true waiting list should say ... " your child passed the interview, but due to the high volume of applicants, we are unable to offer you a place at this point........ " and they would include a form for you to indicate whether you wish to remain on the waiting list.  The deadline of expression of interest is feb 17 too, I think.... Correct me if I am wrong

The wait list letters I've got from RC and SJS have a reply slip.  I have to give them reply if i want to put my child to wait list.  The only difference is the one in SJS mentioned about the language ability as well.  RC's letter didn't mentioned.

Thanks for your info.  It's really helpful to me.  I really want to secure a place for my girl if I can.  But the letter I received from RC is smilar to that of kcvtsai.  Hope my girl still get a chance from both school.

That is true in a certain sense. If you have money and foreign passport, you can always send your kids abroad to study. After all, international schools in Hongkong are just mimics of schools abroad {:1_1:}

Only true to certain extent, the biggest difference is that those local schools in western country are a lot less resourceful than most international schools in HK. And then, multiculturalism is not a main theme for public schools in western country as well.

I guess that would depend on the particular school, comparing apple to apple, I doubt if Harrow UK would be less resourceful than Harrow International HK, but you're right about the lack of multiculturalism {:1_1:}

You mean they shorten the school hours from five days a week to four and a half?I like this idea, as I studied in UK when young, also was 4-1/2 days.
The half day off will give you time for sports activity (school team training) or after-school projects.

ADT1227,

Yes, RC wanted to shorten the school hours without discussion with the parents. They all objected and worried the school enjoyed too much freedom in adjusting the school policies. As it was also heard that the school's financial condition was not sound because the government failed to give them building fund they expected. So, I worried the school's development would be hindered by the financial hardship.

Maybe I worried too much....can other parents share more information?

Isn't it right that the new kids joining RC (start from this year) has to pay a one-off $2xxxx for school maintainence expenditure?
