HI all mommies :

I will be moving to SH around Aug. Do u know where can I hire a good a-yi? what kind of question should I ask her during the interview ?

My son will going to nursery in Sep for half day so I will have half day free ?

I am planning to join some activities or doing some volunteering work during the free time ? any good recommendation ?

Hi All SH Ma Ma,

Regarding with the A+C, here is my conclusion:

1. Imported vaccine is out of stock in 和睦家. They just have the local one which charges $300.

2. Imported vaccine is available in World Link. You need to order in advance. It's around $800. Can't remember any body check-up is required. If u are interested, ring up them up!

3. FuDan Childern Hospital - Local made vaccine, cost $25 + VIP fee $120

4. A local injection place from the local council in Pudong - $19.60

If u want to take the imported A+C+W+Y, go to World Link.

If u take the local one, ring up to the local hospital or ask the kindergarten where you could take the local vaccine. I think it is not worth of going to 和睦家 for extra $280 and FuDan VIP for extra $120 for the local made vaccine.

I will take my kid to take the local A+C next week in Pudong. Please let me know if u want the address and phone number. (But seems that no other ma ma are living in Pudong...

Hope we could have a lunch gathering soon....

Thank you for your detailed conclusion.  It seemed that you have found out the local clinic in your area also provide A+C injection.  That is great!!  

based on your conclusion, I will fristly go for having injection in local clinic in our area.  If no A+C injection provided, I will go to Fu Dang Children Hospital.  

if the weather is fine and my daughter's health condition is good, I will bring her to school next Tuesday although she haven't had the injection.  Most of the children in her school has resumed studying in last Monday.  I think if no serious illness reported by the school, it may be no problem to bring my daughter back after a week's time   :-|

巾帼园家政 may provide some choices that suit yours. They will specify those a-yi with baby caring experiences. I just found one in the Xujiahui 巾帼园家政. U may find one in your living district.

Do you think your ayi (the one who resigned) has found a job?  Do you think you can refer to me?  The agent has referred another ayi, just work for one day and complained that our requirement is too high, she is not happy that I ask her to clean the floor with cloth (not mop).  I've told the agent that it is my basic requirement becos our wooden floor color is very dark, if not using a cloth, it looks like a mess.

The children in Shanghai who is aged 3 or above would be required to take the Type A (MAV) in Nov every year. That's why the shanghai coucil provides the type C separately at the moment (please refer to another BBS I posted few weeks ago). The current A+C is the new mixed vaccine which for those childern/people who has not taken any Type A. If u have taken the Type A, you can't take the A+C and take the Type C separately.

I think the A+C is for the kid who is aged 2 (imported vaccine) or 3 (local vaccine). how come your kid could take it?

I would like to hire a Filipino or Indonesian maid. cos' I don't want to let the local maid to look after my children. Do  you know any agent in Shanghai? If so, please PM me about the contact.

Or I have to hire one from HK and brings her to here?

Hi, Joannek,

Thank you for reminding me.  My daughter didn't have any vaccine injection after we relocated here in SH.  I did check with our HK doctor when I was in HK.  He double checked my daughter's injection record and suggested me to have A+C injection when I came back to SH.

But I will ask the local doctor to double check my duaghter's injection record before she has the A+C injection.

HI Joannek,
What I mean is that my family members are taking the A + C + Y+W vaccine as you know that the adolescent group are also high risk group. My son need a special one , the conjugated type C ,as he is below age 2. This special vaccine is not avaible in HK either. I need special order from my friend. However this conjugated type c vaccine is routinely given to the baby in UK and Australia since 1999. The good thing is that it provide long term immunity to the meningitis due to memingoccal type C and not much side effect but the vaccine itself is quite expensive and need special order.

Any kid can take the A or A+c vaccine , the reason for not giving for those below 2 or 3 is because the polysaacharide inside the vaccine is unable to stimulate the antibody production if the kid is too young.

Do you mean the ahyi that I fired?　Oh...if she is failed in my house, I have no confident to refer to you.  This is my own thinking.  Of course if you don't mind, I can give you her no. and you talk to her directly.  Her no. is kept with my SH home, send you SMS later.

How is your son now , any fever ? As far as I know, this is not a live vaccine, the side effect will be quite minimal, don't worry. Maybe he is scared by the needle and have some nightmare.

My elder son is a super naughty boy. He is seldom crying for injection. He just felt painful last night and told me he couldn't move up his hand...in fact he could move...

The agent has arranged another ayi to come this afternoon, let's see what will happen.  

I thought your 'fired' ayi is OK?! I've drafted a statement for the new ayi, if she does not agree on what has written, I won't ask her to start working. I've spoken to my son's classmate's mommy, she has 2 ayi at home, both from countryside, she said, when you found the ayi is good, you have to try to keep her. (as long as she is asking something reasonable)   I don't agree with her, why do we have to please the ayi?

HI Critic,
The vaccine is not a must but in my opinion, you better have the vaccination done. The reasons are :

1 The meningoccoal infection is quite infectious as it can easily spread by contact and droplet.

2 althougth the survival  and cure rate is quite high around 90 %if recognised early eoungh,  the long term neurological sequalae eg deafness and mental retardation  is quite significant which is around 10 %.

3 the vaccine itself is quite safe and minimal side effect except those with history of allergy.

Can I have the indo maid agency phone number. Do u mean that we  can hire maid directly from Indonesia to China and work as a housemaid. How much is their salary working in China as a maid ? is it same as HK?
