ESF WKS kindergarden student but failed get offer from ESF primary school

just want to share the fact, my kid is in CAT 2 & has no sibling but has got dual offer. Before reading this column we  don't know the successful rate is that low. It's so sad to hear that. As I observe, lots of the kids' ENG standard are very good, don't know what went wrong?! don't give up parents!

Children who passed the interview but did not have offers right away because of insufficient Y1 places in the selected school were not required to attend the enhancement programme.

以去年青衣英基之做法,是學生如果在waitlist內,找一位老師將這組人補習,再過一兩個月,安排這些學生再面試,機會都好大.

May I know did your child attend any extra program runs by this school?

As I know some students in Abacus Kinder last year did not have chance to have interview iin Clearwater bay school in the first round, then kindergarten arrange them to have interview to other ESF in the second round and most of them got the offer.
So don't give up and ask WKS for any help even to other ESF school.

As a matter of fact, just like in ESF kindy this year... many parents in Cat 2 were not even invited for interviews... but many of them will eventually get an offer.  At Abacus this year, the principal told us up front that they were only admitting Cat 1 students during the first round... and reminded parents that if they were in Cat 2, the chance of getting into an CWB would be very slim due to the overwhelming numbers of Cat 1 applicants.  

Just a wild guess.... that maybe WKS parents didn't get first round offers because many of them are Cat 2... Offers would keep coming until spaces are filled.  Frankly, many true Cat 1 families have more options and may eventually drop the ESF offers.

But... I have learnt from BK ESF parents that no matter which stage the child is at in the ESF system, always have a back-up plan.

I was a K2 parent in Abacus last year.
I Can tell you yes, finally all of us got an offer, not in CWB, but in SJS or KJS.
So don’t worry, I believe the kinder will help you to find a seat.

This is interesting.... Is the principal new to the ESF system because WKS is a new school?  Such unhelpful comments are nearly unheard of in ESF system.

這推斷是有可能,冇牙力之故,上述bk mama都只是說Abacus學生最終有學位.
去年青衣,rejected果訿,學校真係釆你都傻,校長亦是新舊交接.
今年wks是新校,貴子弟只讀得一個學期,對心儀的學校是否有參與所辦之課程,太多因素會映響出來的結果.....

As you may aware, almost all cat 2 student without siblings cannot get a placement of P1.  The reply from school is unreasonable and not going to take any further step to help us or give us any suggestions.

Between, many of the parents already found a fact about the problems of the course content and the attitude of teachers and backup services.

Shall you are a current K2 student of ESF Wu Kai Sha and have the same feeling, please ps me.

I never talked in babykingdom, but this time i cannot stop myself from expressing myself here.
I am also a WKS parent.  The school is new and the principal is also new to the ESF.  I understand she may get some difficulties as she is new and also there is never guarantee on any Year 1 placement.
However, I found the principal and the whole school a joke!  No heart at all!
The principal and all the teachers show no concern about all the parents' worries and the principal even told a parent that they can in fact withdraw their kid from the school if they are not satisfied with the school.  She said many parents would like to put their kids in . What a good altitude!
We also find the whole school is running so badly.  Mnay parents regretted transferring their kids to WKS.

WKS只不過貫徹作風,別動氣.
所以去年青衣有學生即走.

May I know how bad the situation is in term of teaching and guiding activities? I've heard from my neighbours that students can't learn too much in WKS. I know there are 2 teachers in a class only while there are 3 in TY. Does it mean that TY kinder is better. Pls advice.

You are right, I am also wks parents, responsible for the admstration's "blonde" teacher,
very no courtesy,  she never say hello with the parents , I do not know how they can teach children.
One of them from the "TY" transfer over the "Chinese teacher", in the class is only open vcd kids watch,
there are 2-3 times a week, if they are just watching TV, I can at home, why to pay so much money to "watching TV".

Woodland in Sai Kung also offer K3 (for  6 year old) programs.

could be another alternative for some parents here?

AS replied by KJS, it was only the few very rare cases last year that could have such arrangement. Due to the over-subscription this year on both KJS and SJS, highly unlikely there will be such arrangement again this year.

I wonder whether WKS has made it clear to parents the picture ahead before the application for Y1.  TY encouraged parents to apply for both ESF primary and PIS as well as IS not under the Foundation given the foreseeable keen competition.  It's really the responsibility of the kinder to let parents know about their situation.  They are the one to channel admission info from various sources like individual primary schools and head office to the parents.

ESF have modified the admission system this year.  Upon receipt of the invite for interview, applicants were told whether they would have an offer in the first round.  Letter for Cat 1 applicants stated clearly that they would be offered a place if they pass the screening while that for Cat 2 applicants said they would only be placed on waitlist.

Dear WKS parents,

I'm very sorry to hear all about having no offer at this stage. Perhaps many of you are in Cat. 2 this year. I can feel how you parents feel as I was once the ESF Kinder parent. Actually to go for the ESF Kinder education, we have given a LOT!

However, according to the recent ESF email for all ESF primary school parents, there are a lot more applicants with an increase of 19% for the traditional primary schools and even 30% increase for RC. Well, the fact is that more Cat. 1 applicants are included in the pool of candidates in the sense with a keen competition.

For RC, I have heard from a few parents of RC that the ESF kindergarten graduates (younger brothers/ sisters) offer no places for P1 (2010-2011) even with the siblings. That means there are a lot of real Cat. 1 candidates this year. Then, the school does give a priority to those Cat. 1 with better English over those applicants with siblings.

My child has changed from SJS to RC. I can see the trend that RC now aims at boosting its academic development, with a well-balanced program for both traditional Chinese and English on the IB learning platform. Even for SJS, there is a significant change with the new principal this year - more homework.

I dunno.But parents, in the meantime, please don't get frustrated! Please remember to keep your kids using English if your kids are in Cat. 2 as to be prepared for the coming interviews. AND take note of the discipline of your kids as they are quite "free". Discipline is very important at the time of the interview! 3 years ago, when my kid was in ESF TY, I also applied for K3 - CAIS just in case... That year, I was told that I could not apply for both SJS and RC. My chance was even slimmer than now. There's always a tradeoff: my kid was in Cat. 1 as I started to introduce some simple spoken Chinese to him only after he got the offer from SJS. But it's TOO late to do the second language! Terrible Chinese reading and writing in simplified Chinese!!Moreover, he learnt 'NOTHING' from ESF Kinder. The rule of the game is that being rendered the priority for ESF primary with the sacrifice of NO Chinese at the critical learning stage of learning languages.

Anyway, parents, remember not to exert too much pressure on the kids at this stage and drain your energy on non-ESF primary schools INSTEAD.
