Currently most HK AL students study non-language subjects by English. I can't see any problems for HK students to take the IB Diploma in English. To use Putonghua to study one of the language subjects for the IBD is also not difficult for the curent HK primary students as all of them are studying Putonghua. Furthermore, Logos will use Putonghua only to teach Chinese Language beginning at the the Development Stage.

I also doubt that whether Cantonese can be used to teach Chinese. I saw one school (Sir Winston Churchill High School in Alberta, Canada) providing Cantonese as an option to teach Chinese for the IBD.

1. We are talking about the "Teaching Language" not the examination paper in English or Chinese. Let it be simple, IB school must provide 1. English 2. Spanish 3. French as their "Teaching Language". Yes, HongKong AL students can take the examination in English. I no doubt their English ability. But IBD sysllabus not HKAL sysallbus. please check it out.

2. You mention the School which is located in CANADA. Their first language is English. Mandarin or Cantonese is selected for SECOND Language. Do you understand? It is big difference from HK. Our mother tongue is Cantonese and first language is Mandarin. Besides, please check the previous message here or direct go to IB Org website, how to define First Language and Second Language in particular school in difference  countries.

Even Victoria use English/Mandarin as teaching language, she can’t  change her student’s mother tongue from Cantonese to English/Mandarin according to their living environment.

IB 所謂mother tongue teaching language is referring to what teaching language of the school. Therefore HK students can go overseas / Li Po Chun / Yew Chung to study the IB diploma course after form 5 from local school.

我想問Philip : Victoria Primary 由開始take action to apply IB (e.g. prepare for teacher qualification, syllabus etc.) 到expect 成功用how many years ? 相信不多於5年吧! 為何真道現在不take action 就認為將來做不到呢? 真道can use super high pay to recruit the native English/Mandarin teachers (even those brilliant teachers from Victoria) in future to prepare for their IB application. As one of the  BK mom said, if you have money, you can make it.

Therefore, my conclusion is that if 真道 is really providing IB Diploma, its annual tuition fee would be drastically jumping to a huge figure in order to employ sufficient no. of high quality native English/Putonghua speaking teachers.  At that time, 真道 would become another "noble" school as its students will definitely come from upper middle class or rich families.  Bearing in mind that being a noble school is contradictory with the current missions and values of真道 – its present students are mostly come from ordinary middle class families.  The majority of parents may not be affordable to pay around $80,000 to $100,000 per annum.
Some真道 parents may argue that the background of the school is very strong and rich and therefore financial should not be the problem.  I would like to say: Is it really the case? Please note that the school is only supported by 香港華人基督教聯會 是一個歷史悠久的基督教團體。聯會於一九一五年創辦，由當時的七大基督教會，即倫敦會、聖公會、公理會、禮賢會、崇真會、循道會和浸信會所組成。一九四八年註冊為立案法團（香港法團第一零二五號）。至今有會員教會三百間，合共有基督徒約二十多萬。
Do you think香港華人基督教聯會 is so rich that it could unconditionally subsidize the tuition fees for the students to purse the IB Diploma? Bearing in mind that 香港華人基督教聯會 is a Christian Church background, it needs to support many evangelical activities other than 真道.  真道is only the subset of 香港華人基督教聯會.
For Li Po Chun, Yew Chung and Victoria, they really have a rich financial background.
Provision of IB programme in particular for IB Diploma is not an easy game to play. That's why up to the present moment only the highly esteemed international schools can afford to offer IB courses.
Please think above about that.

Yes, I think the government will continuely subsidize not less than $30000 (based on current value) for local DSSs for the next 10 years. In overall, government actually pays less money to DSS schools than to subsidized schools.

You may think that $60000-$80000 is a small amount. However, I think $60000-$80000 is enough to provide a IBD course.

The calculation is based on 經常開支. Government pays for 非經常開支 for subsidized schools is higher than DSS although DSS can also apply for some 非經常開支 susidize.
eg:
- Housing loan
- Computer, equipment, furniture improvement
- Teachers training
- Fat chicken ...

About the calculation of 經常開支 for subsdized schools. I also feel (just my impression) that it's based on the number of students can be offered by the subsidized schools but not based on the actual number of students.

   我們家沒有人是 "Doctors, Chief Accountant, Lawer, etc." 也不 "Rich",但小孩卻是真道的學生. 那我的小孩一定很厲害,能夠被真道的老師們和校長(1st interview 沒有校長interview)選到. 可是以我所知,真道有不少像我們這樣的家庭.

上學一個月,真道的"與別不同" 教學方法和老師並沒有今我失望過.看到小孩在學習和品德上都有很好的表現,這些不只是邱校長的功勞,也是其他老師付出的成果.

真要借這裏對真道的校長和老師們說 "謝謝!"

Of course lah, St. Paul Co-ed also want to remove the name of 'Noble' School and then receive VERY POOR background gei students. Maybe logos also want to prove their school accept all background of students. So, you are her tongue loh. You do not need to thank you Logos lah, Logos must thank you lah. Because your speech can help them to remove "Noble".

I just said " doctors, lawyers, chief accountants and [size=large]etc.. I do not know your 小孩 厲害 or not BUT at least I know you are 一定很厲害 loh.  
        

I am so happy that I give up to apply this SCHOOL for my kids. It is because I need not to social with such kind of parents of my kids' classmates.
