Re: 臻美小學家長
Hi peag.peag,
I’m so sorry to tell you probably I will disappoint you. First, I’m not a parent representative. Second, personally I do not agree putting the homework assignments onto the web page.
Putting homework assignments onto the web involves huge administration work which will further increase the workload of the teachers. By doing this, obviously, it is helpful to parents in guiding our kids to do the homework. Very likely, it will gain some applause too. But, is it good to the students themselves? After all, the teachers and the students need to pay for the marginal benefits.
In my past experience when my boys were in P1, it did happen to them missing this and that. But, I allowed them to make mistakes as long as it was not fatal mistakes. I allow them not submitting homework. It’s not a big deal. I remembered one time we came across a very difficult homework assignment which was beyond my boy’s ability. I just wrote a note to the teacher saying that my boy was incapable to do that. Afterwards, we received a very decent feedback from the teacher on the next day.
In my opinion, training them to develop responsibility and independence is far more important than getting the homework done. I would rather let my boys aware the mistakes they made, lead them look into the mistakes, ask questions, ask for their solutions and monitor their performance. Yes, it is ten times more difficult than scolding them to get the homework perfectly done. However, it will be paid off very soon.
On the other hand, if we do too much for them, we will ruin the chances for their development. I always tell my boys, “It is your homework, not mine.” As a matter of fact, we are all busy at work. Our limited time at home should be spent on something more meaningful.
I believe Pegasus is a place where can accommodate mistakes. Be relaxed and work hard.
By the way, my boys study in Chinese Stream. I don’t know whether language barrier is a problem in your case. Anyway, whenever I have some questions in my mind, I will make appointment to talk to the teachers concerned. Usually, they react very fast.
Regarding the circulars, very often it is distributed by the students themselves in order to train them self-managed. Unavoidably, especially in P1, some circulars will be missed during the distribution process. As the number of circulars is not too many, compared with homework assignments, I agree putting the important ones onto the school intranet if it does not involve too much administration work.
How to reflect? Just write to the school management. Alternatively, to leave messages in BK sometimes works.
Have a nice weekend with your boy. :
