Re: Think International School

My son is now studying in Grade one in Think Int'l School. There are only about 14 pupils in the class. I like the small class size very much. The Canadian curriculum is adopted in this school. Yes, they have one hour of Chinese which is taught in Putunghua every day. The textbooks they use for Chinese are the same as the ones used in local schools, so I hope the standard of their Chinese will not be much lower than students in local school. My son's English is quite good. He speaks a lot of English at home. I think everything is so far so good now.

Re: Think International School

Well, their first batch of Grade 6 students have not graduated yet, so we can't really say for certain whether they could get into a local secondary school or not.
As far as I know, local secondary schools are not allowed to give a written test to Primary six pupils when they consider their application. They will usually interview p.6 pupils in English and Chinese, so I think if the child's English is good, he definitely has an edge over other children in the interview.
In terms of curriculum, I don't think there is a problem because the most important thing is their language. If the child's language is good, they will be able to cope with whatever subjects in secondary schools.
One thing that worries me is that my son's English is much better than his Chinese, especially Putunghua. I think we need to give our children extra help in Chinese and maths if we want them to be able to go to a local secondary school.
There are many international schools which are better than Think, but I have chosen it because of two reasons:
1. He went to Think Kindergarten and he had made huge progress in those three years. I hope he will also do well in Think Int'l school.
2. Think is comparatively cheaper than other international schools. With such a small class size, I think it is value for money.

Re: Think International School

Hi miulinglong,

I am also considering Think Int'l school.  I, especially like the small class size, true.. it is value for money.  I have no doubt on the English language level, teaching approach, quality of teachers, etc.  Though chinese is not comparable to local school, but already better than many int'l school, given that daily chinese lesson is given.

I am concerning the extracurricular activities offered by the school.  Since the school is small with not many students, I would like to know more about the school activities.  As I know, some local schools / int'l school offer school activities after school, some like extracurricular activities - (dancing, singing, drama, sports, etc.), excursions, field trips, camping, etc.

Besides, the school size is small with only one building.   Don't know whether it offers enough space for children's activities as they are always full of energy.  Anyway, it is only a hardware, not the most important element.

May I have your comment.  Thanks a lot.

Would you mind telling which branch of Think did your son go to?

Re: Think International School

mtot,

As I know, Think primary has different extra-cirricular activities on every Friday.  The principal said that they are planning to move Think Kln Tong kinder to another campus so as to release more space for primary at the existing campus.

Re: Think International School

Re: Think International School

My son was the student of kindergarden section (Lai Chi Kwok - Mei Foo). Honestly, the experience of studying in the international class was totally horrible. They change teachers almost every two months without any notice for parents. The the principal moved my kids to the Chinese class and have english lesson with 38 kids. My son told me that he sat at the back and could not see anything. The class teachers suddently 'disappeared' (That was the term told by the other teachers and my son told me after that..). And they have no Putonghua lessons even most of the parents asked for.
I won't consider Think kindergarden anymore for my second son cause the school consider 'money' more than everything.
A bad memory for me and my son!

Re: Think International School

OnionMummy,

Which year and which class did your son join?  My kid has joined the Mei Foo branch for a few years studying in international and bilingual classes and did not see things happen as you said!  The class is usually 1x kids, there is never a class of 38 kids taught by one teacher.  If you want to complain, pls write to the school with actual facts!!!

Re: Think International School

38 is the class size of a primary or secondary school. Won't it be a bit "exaggerated"?

Re: Think International School

I am in the same situation as you. My son is in LN now.

There is one thing I really want to ask for you guys' opinions, that is the Chinese standard of the Think graduates. I have confidence in their English standard, but I am a bit worried that one hour Chinese every day is not sufficient to help him build a soild foundation in Chinese; and thus would it be a bit difficult in catching up in local primary schools? Expericned parents, please sahre your views.

Re: Think International School

My son is also in K3 (Kowloon Tong), he can do his weekly diary by himself and read a lot. It's always a difficult balance - if more time on Chinese, they might not have so profound English standard. I knew a boy graduated last year, he can recognize hundreds of Chinese characters. I am sure his parents should have done a lot on it.

Re: Think International School

babybbma﹐
