Hi Lelu,

Maybe girl a bit better than boy in this stage, I won't take much care on her. Only during test and exam period, we will stay at home and do some revision with her. My girl is doing quite good on her work, I do satisfy with her result.
Actually, I'm quite busy on my work, I won't go home for dinner quite often.

For the DSS result, SPCPS rejected us. HKUGA, we didn't go for the 2nd interview, cos it crashed with the PTH speech competition. Just wait and want to be a SJPS boy now.

No No.  It's OK.  Many ppl are doing the same thing especially for working parents, sometimes have no choice but to rely on external assistance.

I asked you whether you boy had tutor just because I can foresee I will have the same need next year and most likely I will ask around for recommendations of tutor centre at that time

I think SPCPS = St. Paul's College Primary Section, i.e. St. Paul's Boy

Usually, we name SPCC = St. Paul Co-edu. College

Despite the impressive and nice principal of SPCPS, I still selected SJP last year.

I can bet both of your respective son will be classmates of SJP on Sept. 07.

yes. Lelu is right. SPCPS is St Paul boys.
and I'm also confident my boy can enter SJP finally. That's why we didn't go to the 2nd interview of HKUGA law.

To me and my son, the academic requirement of SJP is high.

There are certain examples:
English: need to write complete sentences and learn grammar and will have unseen dictation at next term.
Maths: all in English; need to understand the meaning of questions e.g. altogether, difference, more than, fewer than, less than, take away: 3- D concept - prism, pyramid, cone, stack, roll, etc.
Y+6+Y=12, Y=?
d, g, ?, m
Chinese: 部首 of 在、走、來; 擴充句子; comprehension, 排列句子。

You may take a look of Primary 1 textbooks of SJP from a book store.

English, Maths - Longman Express
Forget the publisher of Chinese and General Studies.

You can compare what our children's level at SJK and what they will learn from it with the level of P1.

I hope I don't terrify you.  My son's schoolmate from KENTVILLE still has pressure.  You may also visit the SJP parents’ threads at BK.

Notwithstanding the gap, I am still confident that our SJK boys will catch up sooner or later at P1.

I see!  Yes very agreeable.  The examples you quoted are very difficult bor.

So do we need to preview the textbooks first during K3 time??

Then I think tutor centre is a must to me and my boy.  Yes pls kindly give me your recommendation once we have the place in hand.  Thanks in advance!

For the primary, I am still speculating. Regarding SJP and SPCPS, will you consider the teacher:student ratio. SJP is big class, SPCPS is small class. Given such, i believe that SPCPS has more input on the boys' wholistic development, say behavior, character, emotion.... apart from academic aspect. Anyone can share more?

Hi centre,

I can share your concern.  SPCPS is indeed a very, very good school especially Miss Chan, the principal.

Last year, I took SJP because:
1. uncertain quality of SPC (secondary)
2. why SPC did not admit or commit to admit ALL P6 students of SPCPS?
3. "very" small school campus of SPCPS
4. the character of my son (lazy and poor imitative) might not fit the self-disciplined, open approach of SPCPS.
5. location and $$
6. likelihood of my son's further studies in HK or overseas, and when.

Despite the keen competition and pressure in SJP, I still view my decision is correct.

Besides, SJP has been changing its approach e.g. less students to 36-37 in a class, more projects/cases, more reading, computer skill and sport.  This year, SPC won DBS and La Salle and became the champion of swimming gallery Grade A.
