If you know the sounds, you can teach by yourself without any special phonics books/VCDs, any ABC book will work, you just need to say the sounds of the letters instead of the names of the letters.  For me, I used Oxford Essental Reading when I first introduced phonics to my baby.  I also found Mr.Men/MissLittle has a single VCD teaching phonics as well, about ~$40.

I think it is hard to say when you should teach phonics as different parents have different plans.  I teach phonics as I want my baby to be able to pronounce the English words more accurately.

            When you bring AliBB to the first Gym class? I've checked with Heep Hong Society but they did not have any Gym class for baby so small on HK Island now. For Gymboree, is it in Admiralty? Do you find Gymboree good for baby? I checked that they had class for baby from 6 month and want to try.

Could you tell me why the Heep Hong Programme is good?  I queue up for their "Exploration for Toddlers (1-2 yrs)" Programme some 4 months ago and they called me last week that it was my turn.  The class is conducted by a Physiotherapist and the training is on the kid's muscles like gym.  I don't know whether it is worth joining or should I choose some integrated training course instead, like the one below:

幼兒潛能訓練課程

這是一項按孩子成長階段而設計的活動課程，內容包括有刺激大肌肉、小肌肉、智能、社交、語言、情緒及自理等能力的活動，由經驗的專業導師指導父母「了解」嬰孩的特性，「掌握」輔助成長的「技巧」，完成課程之後，家長學會了接近30個親子遊戲，而每個遊戲都可為孩子的成長奠定不同能力的發展基礎。

"Exploration for Toddlers" 有 6 堂, 價錢合理, 主要當比 bb 做吓運動, 佢有 d 器材, e.g. 千秋, 遙板, fit ball 等等, 亦有個感觀室(不過唔知是否間間都有).

幼兒潛能訓練課程 - 應該你是說基督教服務處?
主要活動包括:唱歌, 認知(如: 認相同物件, 相同 color等), 大小肌肉運動(走吓爬吓, 玩泥膠, etc), 學習交換物件, 收玩具, 有小食時間.

兩者有 d 分別, 前者注重運動刺激, 後者注重社交, 以上希望可幫到你.

I guess 妤妤's info is more comprehensive than mine.  I haven't attended the 1-2yr class of HeepHong, I only joined the Baby Gym, so, sorry that I don't know the answer to your question.  The reason I left Heep Hong was that the Heep Hong center I went was a little bit small, as my baby started to run at 1yr old, I found the space was not enough for her to walk/run.  Also, I have spent 1/2 yr in that center, wanna try something else.  Another reason was that I found my baby did not really pay attention at the class, and I realized that she did not like the instructors talked to her in Cantonese, as she only understood English.  I found her paying more attention at English playgroup, so, I decided to change to other playgroup which was conducted in English.       Soli soli, cannot help...

Thank you very much for your information and sharing.  I can only take my baby to one place in one week.  Do you think if the 幼兒潛能訓練課程offered by Hong Kong Christian Services would be able to cover what is taught in "Exploration for Toddlers" by Heep Hong?  I am tempted to go to the Heep Hong class because it is close.  However, it seems that the training from 幼兒潛能訓練課程 is more comprehensive.  Or do you think both are worthy to join?

If I were you, I will make a list and compare the 2 courses:

- Tidy Up Toys...................Yes.................Yes

You can first list your priority, i.e. the things you want your baby to learn, then, call the centers and ask them whether the class will include those things or not.  As different mums have different priority, so, it is hard to say which one is good for your baby.

The comparsion by nn is comprehensive.

I suggest that you may join both of them one by one. Firstly, you may apply HeepHong. It almost full and take a long time to queue up. In the meantime, you attend the course held by Christian Srv.

Both of the courses are in Cantonese.

The content of 幼潛 is similar to the course held by 保護兒童協會, but 保協 is much cheaper than 幼潛 ($380 for 8 lessons). 保協 is also very full and also take a very very long time to queue up.

Therefore, I will not join 幼潛 again, and also, I will find some another courses which is communicated in English because Zoe does not know English.

Oxford Essential Reading (LINK) - bought through kindergarten, the school arranged group order from Australia.  I think you could order from online...

For Pre-school Power, I bought from KMK, I dunno whether other places have this or not.
