thanks so much for your sharing. My girl will do the 212 (grade 3 violin) in the coming Friday.  And I am just wondering how nice Mr. Nigel is.  My girl will feel more relax if the adjudicator is pleasant and kind with smiles on the face.

My girl did N211 too.  She got 85 marks (the winner and the 1st and 2nd runners up respectively scored 90, 87 and 86).  I was glad that she did not appear to have been affected by the absence of her mother, who was supposed to play the piano part but was unable to make it because she had to attend to another matter in the morning.  I must praise the adjudicator Mr. Nigel Boehm, who was extremely patient and attentive, and very fair.  He was never slow to share his experience and gave very detailed and useful comments in the mark sheet.  A perfect adjudicator indeed.  There were a few Form 4 or 5 beginning learnes who, thought did not play really well, managed to show a great deal of courage and commitment to the instrument.  Playing among a large group of primary students who know the instrument better is not for the faint-hearted.  Three cheers to them.  This was the first time my girl and I took part in a competition, and we enjoyed every moment of it.

Dear All,

Can anyone pls let me know at what time I need to arrive at the venue, the start time or ready time ?  Or, can I arrive just before the ready time ?  I'd like my boy to practice the songs before the competition but it seems impossible for us to do if we need to get there by the start time.  

Besides, any comments for Grade 1 Piano solo #102 (March) ?

I am sure your girl will not find Mr. Boehm intimidating.  He is indeed a gentleman who speaks and acts very pleasantly.

N211 is Rigaudons by Desmarets, not any concerto in B minor.  Are you talking about Concerto In B minor by Oskar Rieding, which is N212?

I don't really know N212.  My 100% SUBJECTIVE GENERAL IMPRESSION with Mr. Nigel Boehm as an adjudicator is that:-

1. He is the "if you cannot do it right, don't show off" type;

2.  He does care about tone and prefers a simple but good and pure tone to a complicated one with vibrato which is not well delivered;

3. Stage manner is important to him.  He said expressly that the candidates should not hide behind the music stand;

4. He is looking for more dynamics.

係呀~ 大會講明唔準攝錄&影相.
不過, 因為今次係我囡囡第一次參加比賽, 所以我同老公都有偷偷地去影
我地搵左個最後排位置, 靜靜雞影.  以我當日所見, 除左我地, 就無人咁樣做

Dear Warren, Congratulations! I just can't be any happier that all the children of BK parents have done so well indeed.

I find the experience extremely rewarding.  As many BK parents have already said, the results are not important at all.  What makes me most happy is that my girl finally understands and agrees, after watching 40 kids play the same piece in so many different ways, that it is the right arm that really matters.  I also seized the chance to give her a mini lecture on being a good winner, bad winner, good loser, and bad loser ...

恭喜你囡囡比賽有好成績！我囝囝今天下午在六國酒店小提琴三級比賽，也是Mr. Nigel Boehm做評判，他很幸運得到亞軍（冠軍90分、雙亞軍87分、雙季軍86分)。冠軍真是拉得很完美！Mr. Boehm給的評語很仔細，歌曲那一部份做得好和需要改善也寫出來。他喜歡較細緻的演譯，大、細聲、節奏、拉弓、分句也要清楚。他本身拉大提琴，但對音樂的判斷很準確，外表溫文爾雅，阿囝今次很好彩遇到他！

小提琴三級的比賽雖然同在六國，我連今天去過三場，次次評判也不同，希望你囡囡星期五也遇到Mr. Boehm。

Thanks for your sharing.  My daughter is a bit nervious as it is her first violin competition, even though I have told her repeatedly that prize is not important.  I just want her to gain experience and learn how to face challenge.

Hi abc-abc,

You are talking about taking the ABRSM Grade One Exam by 4.5 years old or winning a competition in the Music Festival ?  How old is your child now ?

My girl is now 3.5 yrs old and I am planning to have her learn piano soon (at or before 4)

I have no idea about ABRSM or Music Festival, but just from what the parent suggested here, I know kids can join Music Festival even at K2, and thus want to ask the parents to share with me some of their experience.
