as a side issue, is it that difficult to have reasonable level of chinese if a kid studies in IS?
given that (a) the parents (i think all of us who are reading chinese in BK) can speak, read and write chinese, (b) the kids learn chinese at school almost every day for 13 years (provided the kids take IB exam in chinese); (c) the environment is mainly in chinese (tv, newspapers, signs, directories, books in most bookstores and all public library); (d) quite a lot of Chinese students in IS; and (e) it seems that the IB exam in Chinese is not that easy (even chinese B. if you get a pass or good grade in chinese B, it seems that the kids can at least communicate in writing in Chinese). bear in mind we don't need to have perfect chinese, but reasonable level to read, write and communicate. |
