Thanks Shootastar! Have I got you correctly that you think it's worthwhile to stay in HK for university if choosing professional studies, if not, should save up for studying elsewhere?

That is exactly the point I wish to make.

If you study a professional program overseas, it takes a long time to get qualified, no matter it is law, medicine, dentistry, architecture, pharmacy or engineering.

Hi Shootastar,

It's good to learn so much from your sharing!  Do you know if the subject of Chinese can normally be exempted when a student applies for the Law faculty through non-jupas?  Seems those uni's websites normally say it depends.

Appreciated if you could share some more in this aspect!

For non-Jupas applicants, you need to fulfill the secondary language requirement. If you study Spanish or French or German, it will fulfil the secondary language requirement.

According to my observation, the local universities are quite flexible on the secondary language requirement. If you submit GCSE Chinese, or SAT Chinese, they would accept them for the purposes of satisfying the entrance requirement.

Having said that, the requirement for law is quite demanding, in case of IB result, HKU requires 41; CU 38 and CityU 36 this year.

It is quite easy to get an A* in GCSE Chinese and 800 in SAT Chinese Language. My daughter is a non-Jupas applicant this year. She submitted her SAT Chinese score to both CU and HKU this year, Both universities confirmed that my daughter satisfied the second language requirement because they made an offer to my daughter.

My daughter eventually takes medicine with HKU.

My girl submitted her SAT Chinese score of 800. However, over 70% of the examinees obtained score 800 in SAT Chinese language test. It is quite easy.
