I'm facing the exact dilemma too, altho my son is already at ESF.  Staying there I won't have to worry about secondary school, but if all things equal, I would no doubt have chosen ICA.  I can understand how you feel, I'm quite torn myself too.  I've seen my son flourish under the care of the SWCK teachers and I know they will continue to love and care for him at ICA.  But reality also bites, and going through admission procedure again 6 years later is enough to give me nightmares tonight!!

zachmama, which ESF does your son go to?  A friend of mine whose kids go to bradbury just sent me ESF Chinese curriculum.  Seems quite impressive.  They stream students into 3 groups.  The near native group would be required to learn 2500 characters by year 6.  

How do you feel about ESF?  How would you compare it with SWCK?

mrs tess話佢地有諗緊中學, 問題係都要小學up and running先得.  頭先阿女一個同學來玩, 我同佢媽咪傾計, 佢地係洋人, 可以比另一個perspective作參考.

佢地係英國人, 首先, 佢唔明白all the hype about ib, 佢話係英國 ib 根本唔流行, 所以佢唔care. 至於reading, 以我同佢所知,每個小朋友嘅reading assignment都唔同, 視乎程度. 個別小朋友弱d嘅地方,老師會特別提出, 甚至比一d練習佢返屋企做.  如佢個仔reading 好advanced,但係書寫程度同閱讀程度相差太遠, 老師就另外比d練習. 我阿女閱讀程度本身低, 所以就唔會要求書寫咁多住.  基本上真係可以做到幾個人化.

另外, 佢識唔少人係英基讀, 當然有家長會覺得幾好, 不過如果小朋友係需要多d關注, 如老師有時單對單呢d, 係英基就冇可能. 佢覺得自己個小朋友係比較文靜, 如果係英基, 老師根本唔會注意到佢, 所以佢覺得swck/ica好好.

至於我阿女而家呢班14人, 有一個小朋友下星期返鄉下(美國), 佢個位已立即被填左.  暫時收左意向書170份.  新校未能發申請表, 係因為中華基督教會學校本來規劃做中學, 而家要同地政署申請改為小學, 等批左就會正式派表.

Remedially and elmostoney, what is the ratio of students with strong Chinese background (i.e. Parents are fluent in both spoken and written chinese）？ I know it is an excellent school for learning English, but do you think the school will be moving towards more focus on teaching chinese or least willing to listen to parents who have concern on their kid's Chinese learning?

ocean419, 我唔知學校對教中文方向如何, 我而家都等緊機會問下校長. 我知佢地係打算提升水準, 起碼比"以前"英基好, 但係而家英基亦提升左. 我個日收到一個朋友send比我英基個中文program, 我睇完都會再諗下.  如果入到near native stream, 其實都好好.  year 6要學識2500個中文字!  所以我最後決定如何 (我個仔一月面試英基), 其中一個令我考慮嘅方向就係中文.  但係all things equal, 我多數會揀 ica.

KCIS未收我女
interview都未
在我個人來講
我鍾意swck多d
因為係基督教背景
係信仰當中成長既小朋友, 會乖d純d (我未生小朋友係教會教小朋友, 佢地以家大左, 都會keep住返教會,同好乖)
而且, swck近我家少少, 搭的士會平d

不過, 如果有得in kcis, 我會睇下我女鍾意邊間多d
但多數都會入swck
