Regarding with going to kindergarten or not, it's all depending on the health of the child. It will be -2 to 7 on Monday. Seems that it's fine during day time cos' it will be sunny.

I sent my kid back to kindergarten on Jan 18 when we were back on Jan 16. I let him to stay at home for a day in case he couldn't accomodate the temperture difference btw HK and SH. But he took the 'Lung 炎針' in HK. This 針 is suggested to be taken by China government.

We have decided that we won't take the kids to 和睦家 for injections. It's because we are not going to take 5 in 1 at the moment (Just worry we couldn't find the same 5 in 1 in HK). The brand of Nov Ma Ma's daughter taken (GSK) is provided in HK. By the way, I will take my elder son to take the 流脑 in the local hospital on the coming Friday.

Has your daughter taken the Hepatitis A? I think it's important. You know food in China is ...

I've been in Shanghai for couple years. I am familiar with Pudong and little about Puxi. I think most of the BK mums are living in Puxi.

So, where is your daughter studying? We are studying in the local private kindergarten cos' no education allowance from the company.

A mum from my son's kindergarten brought the vaccines from France. She takes the kids to Dong Fang (东方) Hospital for injection. It is nearby 'Luk Ka Tsui'. The injection fees is about RMB250-RMB300.

I think only goods for more than RMB700 (or RMB800) would be taxable. But not sure about if u need any paper works for immigration as it is the bio-chemical product (not sure about the correct term for it).

Don't buy the formula milk before the baby has tired it. Just in case the baby doesn't eat it.

For your information, it take one to two weeks for your kid to develope antibodies after the injection and the recent meningitis outbreak in china is caused by bacteria, meningococcus. Mostly caused by type C and in Guangdong province are caused by Type A, so if your vaccine is for A +C , I think is quite adquate.
For me , I have order the other one that cover A, C , W and Y for my family member.  The disease is transmitted by direct contact , including the droplets form nose and throat of the infected persons or carriers.
General advice for prevention will be keep hand clean and wash hands properly, avoid going to crowdwd places and to wear a masks in high risk area.

　　记者昨天了解到，节后，本市保姆市场出现了3大状况：保姆缺口依然呈现；东家与保姆之间出现“大换血”，50%的家庭将要更换新保姆；钟点工价格从节日期间的10-12元/每小时，回落到正常的6-8元/每小时。

　　记者昨天从本市一些家政公司了解到，春节保姆紧缺的形势依然严峻。某家政公司负责人说：“每天有30-40个来电寻找保姆，但过完年后，陆续返回上

　　海的保姆每天只有4-5人，每天的保姆缺口约达30人。”

　　和往年一样，节后，东家与保姆之间“大换血”的局面再次出现，50%的家庭将要更换新保姆。据悉，出现这种情况的原因在于保姆整体素质不高，许多东家对以往工作的老保姆不满意，而保姆则追求每年工资“节节高”，假如老雇主没有涨工资的意思，保姆也会“炒掉”雇主再攀高枝。因此就造成了每年年后的“大换血”局面，今年的“换血”幅度依然居高不下，目前有50%的家庭正在重新寻找保姆。

　　另外，过完年，钟点工价格已经回落正常，从节日期间的10-12元/每小时，回落到正常的6-8元/每小时。但今年的住家保姆薪水估计只会上涨不会下跌，这是由供不应求的市场现状所决定。具体价格依然根据每个保姆的技能而定，普通保姆的月工资从600元到1500元不等，而涉外保姆最高工资可达3000元左右。

Kung Hei Fat Choy! Welcome of the new comers! I'll spend the time to read all your postings.

I was away for 3 weeks, just back to Shanghai last night, there were so many people in the airport & have to Q for long time.

My son is studying in Wu Nan, school fee is approx. 4500/month for full day from 8:30am to 4:00 pm. Do you know where's US Embassy or 41 Heng Shan Road? It's just right at the corner. I am quite happy with the school, because:

1. He likes the school.   We have been away for 3 weeks, he still willing to go to school this morning without any complaint.

2. They group the class in small size, 10 kids per class, lesser chance to get sick.

3. I can't say he learns a lot in the school but after 6 months, he can understand Mandarin & respond to people in Mandarin. He knows about 'caring' & 'sharing' from the school, there's quite important because he is the only kid and when he was in HK, he did not care other people's feeling, just do whatever he wanted.

Thanks for your advices! I will check if it is workable to bring along the vaccines...hope it will not be so complication finally!

I will do my best to breastfeed my baby first, but in case my baby need to drink formula milk in Shanghai, it maybe my headache to choose the correct and safety one! Any suggestions that you have?

Weather? Living standard? living? eductaional level (esp school fee if study at international kinder.).......

We have already returned back to SH on Monday.  Everything seems fine except busy as I decided not to send my daughter to school until she have the 腦膜炎針 injection.

For the 腦膜炎針 injection, I have also talked to my landlord.  She helped me to check with the local clinic in our area and they do provide the A+C injection for kid.  She will accompany with me and my daughter to have the injection on next Saturday.  My landlord said that I have to bring my daughter's vaccines injection record to the clinic and the doctor will cross check on what injection that my daughter has to take if she lives in Shanghai.  How do you feel about this?

I live in 閔行區 in Pu Xi (near Shanghai Zoo).  Same case as you, I send my daughter to local private school as my husband's company does not provide education allowance and we can't afford sending my daughter to those expensive international schools.  She is now studying nursery class but she doesn't want to go to school.  When I asked her if she like the school or not.  She said yes but hate to go to school.  She is so naughty and I feel very headache.

I am not quite sure about what my landlord told me was true or not.  My husband has asked his local colleague and she said that there is no A+C injection in Shanghai.  Children here usually have "A" injection. I will check it out when I go to that local clinic.  If they only provide "A" injection, I will then bring my daughter to 和睦家.  I am scare of type C than type A...........   :cry:  :cry:  :cry:

According to the media reports of meningococal infection in China , the cases in Anhui are mostly due to type C, So I think better to have the injection for both A + C at least. And remember to ask the doctor how long the immunity last for those injection. To my understanding, may be only few years usually .And it takes 1 to 2 weeks 'time to develope the antibody.
For my kid who is below 2 years old, my only choice is  the conjuated Type C vaccine  although the immunity will likely be more long lasting.
BTW, do you  think that it is the right time to buy a flat in SH as I found that the price is going up and up ?

Everyone has back to Shanghai??

My company wants me to relocate to Beijing & I've to go to Beijing to discuss with them on Wednesday. I have 2 options :

1) stay in Shanghai and they will move the  Beijing operation to Shanghai
2) relocate to Beijing and in-charge both Beijing and Shanghai operations

My boss is American and he keeps telling me that the education in Beijing is better than Shanghai.  My husband can relocate to Beijing anytime but moving again is very troublesome!

My final option is resign, I've discussed it with my husband many times, but he is afraid that I'll find boring to stay home.

I'm still looking for ayi, the Shanghai ayi recommended by agent only worked for one week.

When can we gather again?

My assistant's sister is shop manager of a property company. She said, the market is not 'moving', people are waiting.  I also ask her to pay attention for us, in case, she finds something very 'reasonable' and has good value.  The apartment we are living has gone up to 3.8M. (the landlord bought at 2.6M last year)

Happy New Year first!

Have been away for new year, and just fly back to Shanghai with my newborn, then set up all his stuff in Shanghai home. He is quite ok now :)

I've employed a part-time a-yi finally for mainly cooking, as I don't want her to take care of my bb.

As my family planned to move to new apartment soon, we found that the rental also gone up compared to 3 months before, unbelieveable, it happened so quick !
