Re: Chatroom for St. Teresa's School Parents
nonna,
You may click into the website to have a look.
http://www.edservices.org.hk/.
Actually, they also organise regular open day at the end of each term so that parents may visit the class and see what the children are doing in class. Because the new school term will just start this Sat, I think the next open day will be in mid-Mar.
Well, I think I may not be able to give you too much advice regarding which english playgroup is better because I've not explored too many other institutions (I'm the lazy type of mother). However, I may share with you my personal experience.
I choose ESF for serveral reasons:
1. I would like the place of after school activities for my son to be close to home. Also, I would like to see how my son would perform under the international school system (though Sat. school should be much different from the regular school). Frankly speaking, I'm still exploring whether international school suits my son more.
2. I think learning english should be a long term process. I don't expect imminent results. So I like ESF because they offer different levels from reception to secondary. Also, I like three hours course.
3. The Sat school does not only emphasize phonics and I feel like my son participating in some international school life (though not totally the same). My son enjoys the "show and tell" so much.
4. I remember once in an open day, one of the parents spoke in Cantonese. A few kids in the class immediately said "Speak in english. No cantonese in class". Everybody laughed.
Personally, I believe going to english playgroup is not enough. It would be best if we can spare some time a day to talk with our kids in a total english environment and read with them.
