to Tigerbama,

no matter your chance is high or low, return the slip.  You never know whether you need this 2nd interview chance in June or not.

To Edsie,

So lucky your son has a "good school" to go.  But how do you know SPCPS is not a great school, you studied here before? or you teach here? or you know someone who is studying here?  share with us, be responsible ma.

ok.  It's a personal view about St. Paul Boy's.  My cousin sent both his sons to St. Paul Boy's and she told me that nothing is too good there, especially the English there is not good.  She didn't want to send her younger son there, but she had no choice as no other schools accepted him!  She didn't recommend me to send my son there either....so I didn't bother!

Her sons are in P.1 and P.6 now.

Well, SPCPS is not necessary the cup of tea for everyone.

However, in an NGO activity yesterday, a fellow volunteer, who was just awarded the outstanding staff award by his servicing medical institute, praised the school and told me happily that his younger boy had also joined the older brother's footstep in going to SPCPS.

He said that his boys love to go to school, and start to have faith in christianity.  I trust these are more important to him than "poor English".

So English is not necessary the only yardstick, for me just the "Paul's Action" has done the magic to make me be thankful to the school.

At the end of the day, only parents know what are good for their own kids and there are enough different types of schools in HK for us to choice from.  I feel sorry for Edise's relative, she should at least find another school for the younger boy.

Actually my cousin's elder son doesn't like the school very much and isn't happy throughout his primary years!!!  He is not interested in studying at all and doesn't like to learn anything.  Most of the time, he doesn't do his homework without his mom sitting next to him!!  He always complains that he doesn't like the school and would like to go to Canada to study (as they are residents in Canada).

My cousin goes to work and only the maid and grandma are at home during day time.  The elder son doesn't do homework or revision until my cousin comes home from work!

The younger son has just started P.1 this year and he has no choice as my cousin doesn't want to find another school for him!!!  They accepted him automatically as his elder brother studies there!!!

Never heard that their english is not up to standard.  My friend's son is studying there P3.  She told that her son loves to go to school everyday.
Not many homeworks and the children like the
school much.  Concerning the secondary school, nearly all the government schools are dropping,
including Wah yan, Kings, etc.  For the boys' school, st paul boys is still a very good choice.

My son cannot go into the second in also.  I still
think that it is a good school and should be  fair
to it, though not admitted

Edsie,

Yr relative should try the Canadian International School.   A good school, and many years ago, I went to Russia with their scouts, a very enjoyable trip.

Also, yr relative story does reflect that school cannot replace family as the main or only mean to bring up kids.  In this kind of situation, another good school may not be able to turn around the boy's attitude towards schooling.

As another boy might stay in SPCPS for many years to come, I suggest yr relative to get in touch with the Principal to seek advice.  My experience with Ms. Chan was that she was very willing to offer help.  By the way, there are may good parenting books for learning.

Selecting a school is not selecting a hotel for a single trip, kids need to stay there for a very long period.  No matter it was the "dream" school or not, we, as parents, must be ready to contribute our part of effort.

A final piece of sharing, parent should try to find out the school's "reality", system and requirments before joining any school.  If there is no other choice, one should at least make out the best from the worst.

Um..... I think every school has its pos. and neg.

However, I want to point out one fact, % of st paul Boys students got to a seat in University is low in 2009. Shown in P 27, http://www.spc.edu.hk/docs/news_from_spc_10.pdf
This is one year's result and not represent the whole school. Don't blame on me for anything. I have a neighbor study in there also said he is not having a happy school life there.  Although I still love this school .

If this school is not good, why so many apply and so many feel disapponted when not admitted?

In Hong Kong Island, which boys school is good? We usually ranked like that: st paul co-edu, then
st paul boys, then which one? pls suggest which
primary school for boys is better than these two one.

I have no comment.  As I have said before every school has its pos and neg. However, I am absolutely unsatisfied with their short period interview process. Sorry... And I I haven't said this school is not good either! What I shown you is the report of the school in 2009 only which not represent my feeling!!!

Yes, all schools have pros and cons.

Regarding number of application, it is not only a huge demand of "good" school, it is also that in DSS & private schools system, when you counting all the numbers of children per year, most of the kids can get into one of the "good" schools.

Most of the 1400 plus boys applying to SPCPS also send applications to Ying Wah, SPCC, DBS and RC alike.

My experience of the kids from my workplace was that finally one to DBS, one to Wah Ying, one to Co-ed, one to SPCPS and one to RC.  Everyone is happy at the end.

Then the long and winding up-hill battle begins.
