I called to the school this morning and they said that I am still on the waiting list and my child is in cat 2.  I don't understand how they categorize the children.  My son can only speak English and even though we are Chinese but we lived in Australia for many years and our family speak English all the time at home...

ESF SW never replied (either in the acknowledge letter or the visit invite letter) which Cat they put my kid in.  I hope your application can be placed on the top of the waiting list. Good luck!

my kid is in Cat 2, Abacus.  Too bad that I was so honest and I don't even get the chance to go to the informal play visit.

According to my understanding, if you are invited to join the play visit, you will be offered a seat.  Even they tell you that you are on wait list after the play visit, you will get the offer finally.

May I ask whether you confirm with the admin staff because I have phoned to them and they did not reply to me about this question.

This is not confirmed but is only according to the experience sharing with my friends and relatives.

I applied for SW (Hillside) ESF but have not received letter.  Does it mean my child is on wait list?  I'm getting worried.  Can anyone help?  Thank you.

Does anyone notice that the staff ratio of WKS Kindergarten is different from other ESF Kindergartens?

According to the ESF website, while all ESF Kindergartens' average class size is 22 children, other ESF Kindergartens are having 3 allocated staff members for each class (one teacher and two education assistants) whereas WKS Kindergarten is having 2 only (one teacher and one education assistants), which means a higher teacher to student ratio.  It seems that it is unfair to the WKS students because the attention given to each child will be less (but we are required to pay the same amount of tuition fee).

Moreover, due to the scale of the Tsing Yi Kindergarten (a total of 300 students), they have a full time school nurse stationed at school to look after the students.  However, there is no such arrangement for WKS Kindergarten even though it is of comparable scale with Tsing Yi Kindergarten.

I hope WKS Kindergarten is not a substandard or an inferior kindergarten of ESF family.

I think you better have contigency plan and not to rely on ESF Primary only cos' I think their prior in Primary is like this:
1) Cat. 1+Sibling+ESF Kinder
2) Cat. 1+ESF Kinder
3) Cat. 1+Non-ES ...

It looks like children in #6 has no chance to get in ESF primary school...

Category Two
Children who can access the local system but who also meet ESF's entrance requirements.



Within each category priority will be given to students who:

are siblings of children already attending an ESF school;

are attending an ESF Educational Services Ltd Kindergarten (for Year One only);
3.
are former students returning from a period overseas;
4.
have a parent who is a full-time employee of ESF;
5.
are the children of former ESF students.
