The one in TST called Joyful English is in English for the summer course. Last yr I checked was around $4,000 from Mon to Fri, 2 hours/day.

Pls let me know should you find one. Now the one at Mei Foo offered at HK$140/hour. Teachers are from New Zealand. Is the price reasonable?  My home downsairs is HK$180/hour. Too much la I think. I still think is it necessary to send my girl there?

Thanks for your information.  If I find something interesting for Summer courses, I will let you know.

The one my girl goes right now is also $180/hour.  The one in Mei Foo is $40 less, but when you add the time & transportation expenses, it will be not much different.  Moreover, what is the ratio?  The one I am using is 1:3.  (Min. 2, Max 3)  I think this is reasonable ratio to give my girl reasonable attention and she can also interactive with other kids.  What do you think?

I tried to check private Eng class with John's Ed in 1:1 but it cost $280/hr   ! Wow... I think that's too much la. If small group size for 2-4 is around $200/hr/head; Compare with the class that u introduced is more expensive. Anyway, I will keep searching around; Infact there is a kindergarten near our home who has 2 native Eng teachers; I met them many times in the last few years & I found kids welcome them very much. I am planning to 'invite' them for a 1:1 private English class   . Of course ~ it depends on their willingness. Any way, I dont mind to try ~ Why not, right?

This am, I brought my girl to see Dr Leung Shuk Fong bcse she caught a cold & cough for a whole month. Being a specialist in Paediatrics, I think it's very kind of her to charge in around $200/visit. 不過,佢用嘅藥比較溫和,相比之下好似較難好番,但又聽做護士的妹子說之前我地睇過嘅一些doctor用藥很重,不太適宜小孩使用,所以兜兜轉轉都係返嚟睇佢...

學校係會問你是否有領洗或係唔係教徒,不過我地好多考到幼稚園嘅家庭都不是教徒,不見得因此而有大影響,當然,去到將來如果要考教會小學就另作別論.
聖羅撒中小幼都不是直資,小朋友唔會直升小學,不過去年都有87%幼稚園小朋友可以成功升回聖羅撒小學.

Hi, Little_gin,

Most of the student in St. Rose KG are not in the same net but they will choose St. Rose Primary as their first choice in the 1st round and 2nd round.  Among them, will be mainly in the following groups :

a. Have sister studying in St. Rose Primary.  These will ensure them get a seat in 1st Round.

b. Their mums are old girl.

c. Catholic students, which will be 20 marks.  These will quite certain tp get a seat in 1st Round from past record.

d.  with 15 marks only.  These will need to luck draw in the 1st Round.

Those failed in the 1st round will still have chance for the 2nd round to get a seat in St. Rose Primary.

Then, there is a 3rd round, which is only available for girls study in St. Rose KG.  These will depends on the number of seats available after registered plus the performance during interview.  And, lastly, there will be some parents give up their seats in the last minutes as they have better choice than St. Rose.  If this happened, those in the waiting list in the 3rd round will get the seats.  

Therefore, the ratio of KG girls go to study in the primary section is quite high.  The balance 13% could be those who choose other schools other than St. Rose, as I heard that almost all the girls in 3rd round last year got a seat in the primary section.

However, please bear in mind that the school does not promise that all KG girls apply the primary section will get a seat.

Hi, papaya,

There is only one 教會 for Catholic.  The fathers and sisters are under different 修會.

Regarding how to become a Catholic, please visit www.catholic.org.hk to find a church which is most near or convenient to you, then you can call them to check for the details about 慕道班及主日學 (主日學 is for kids only and 慕道班 is for adult.)   It will take you around 1.5 - 2 years to become a Catholic.  If you are Catholic, then your kids can be Catholic as well.

My daughter is now studying in St Rose Primary One this year. She is also an old girl from St Catherine. I think the standard of St Rose primary is quite high.

They usually have 1-2 native english classes each week (as St Rose is having 6 days per cycle - like other secondary school) besides the normal English class.

For Chinese and English, they have 2 papers for exam. They have separate papers for grammers and phonics and readings.

For both subjects, I have compared with one of my daughter's cousin , who is studying in Chan Sui Ki Primary one this year, the standard for St Rose is at least half year higher.

I think one of the reasons is that the school has changed headmistress who is previously from La Salle Primary, so I think she also wants to do something to maintain higher standard for primary so that the students can perform better when they go to secondary school.

Pls bear in mind that your daughter cannot be a Catholic if her parents are not Catholic.

No, you can go to Sunday School with your daughter at the same time. Once you become a Catholic, your daughter will become a Catholic as well.

So, ws SRL Primary your 1st choice last year? Can you share with us about your choices when applying p/school ? I wish to gain information from those parents who have the same experience & feelings.

SRL was my first choice last year and I got there in the first round.
I have applied a few private schools for her last year but I think because she is small (born in December), she performs well but she failed in those applications.
Luckily, she loves SRL very much and I think the main reason I choose this school is that it is less competitive than Maryknoll or Heep Yunn but the standard has improved. Overall performance in academic and behaviour is good.

Even if her academic are not the top ones, she can still grant a seat in the secondary school who will accept around 80% of the primary students. (I learnt from parents in Primary Six that in order to upgrade the standard of the secondary school, it will only accept around 80% students to Form One from primary)

雖然我自己並不是教徒,但自小就讀天主教學校,心裡某程度上已存在著天主教的教義,以前上主日學實在很好玩,但對於小朋友的性情又好像談不上有什麼關係... 我想AmyWonglo的意思是想告訴係你如何去開始接觸天主教,再者,要成為教徒都要一至兩年時間,如果大家有意思去認識主當然很好,若是只為了入天主教學校那就要有心理準備每周上教會去,那是很需要耐心及靈性的 ,我自己就正是那種懶人;有丁丁點像黄沾那個性格,所以我還是選擇不去教會,不想做個不准不實的教徒

I know one centre in Mei Foo is quite good.  It's called Kids Zone.  My girl studied there before moving.  She loved it very much.  Many primary student are studying there.  You can try to go there to take a look.  If you want the tel no, pls let me know.

Dear all,
上星期公司有個同事好開心咁告訴我,自己的女兒今年將入讀聖羅撒幼稚園K1,問我校服貴唔貴,我忽然醒起小女兩套夏季及冬季校服裙已經著咗兩年了,條裙已經差不多打出個pat pat!明年一定唔啱著,但條裙仲好新淨,丟棄了實在可惜 ,不如環保啲,索性把它轉送給同事的小朋友,結果同事好開心   .... 唉,但家中小鬼今年高得快,想省一點都唔得 ,睇怕我地明年又要買多一套冬季校服裙  :cry:
