Dear K3 Mums,
Could the boys wear sweater? Like those navy blue knit one? Or must  they wear the overcoat ? Hope I am not too annoying.   

Only YELLOW sweater ordered from school is acceptable (no navy blue)

Before the school inform you that when to change winter uniform, boys can just wear summer uniform + white coat.

I saw last Friday in M&S (Times Square) that they have packed short grey socks (1 pack has 5 pairs).

My personal experience is M&S 's socks are much better.  Last year I also bought grey socks from market stalls in 太原街 but after washed, the texture of the socks become loosed and 襪頭橡筋鬆左，成對襪where左。   in fact on average, M&S's socks are not too expensive than those from market stalls.    :wink:

I understand your worries and concerns and I think your term "tradictional' is very creative and vivid   

If St. Jo Primary accepted my son, I would definitely let my son there.  

Pressure from school work is not unique to local traditional schools.  I don't believe that kids/parents of int'l schools have no pressure.  Like you, you said you couldn't sacrifice Chinese studies, right?  My friends whose kids in int'l schools (even relatives living in Canada), they worry about their children's Chinese learning, Maths.  They also hire private tutors, and send their kids for a lot of ECA.  

All of us have worries and pressure.  The only difference is on which subject you worry about.  So it doesn't matter whether it's St. Joseph or St. Stephen, no fundemental difference.  

Hope you'll make a correct choice for your child

yes yes my son is the same
and he also started to plan his activities during X'mas holiday and asked me to help him write down sentence like 'Dec 31 go to Disneyland' in a small note book which he uses to record things he thinks important (eg. telephone nos. of all family members, etc.)

Yes, you're quite right!  Everything lies in one's own attitude.  To be or not to be, right? Thanks for the new dimension you'd given to my consideration.  BTW, you've mentioned that St. Jo didn't have K1, so if I want to apply K2 for my son in 2008, can you tell me when and how shall I get the application form? What criteria do they use when judging the candidates?

No tks lah.  just exchange of views.

I can't recall the exact date for collecting application forms.  If for 2008 admission, you may call the school by the end of 2007.  The tel. no. is 25753692.

I don't know their criteria.  Parents are not allowed to enter the interview room.  I guess they select the children mainly based on the performance during interview.

Do other parents have any views?

As far as i remembered, u need to collect the form in person by bringing along with the orginal Birth Cert. in around Jan/Feb. The interview is scheduled in late March and the result will be posted out in May.

I agree with youngmami that i dont know the criteria for screening-in as my hubby/family a neither old boy nor catholic. Though some say that st. jo prefers older boy, i find it not really the case as some of my boy's classmate are Sept/Oct. and even Nov. boy. In overall, i think being behaved, responsive, polite in the interview is essental.

thank u all for your advice and information. I guess I will buy the socks from M&S  or Old Navy as they have better quality one.
BTW, does anyone of u know how to order the yellow sweater AGAIN? I have missed it !   I have overlooked during the ordering.

They should have stock I think.

Hello All,

I've enrolled my son to the Mandarin Speech Competition, it was held yesterday.
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend.
My son has got a merit, I think it is quite good to let the kids to join such activity.
My son is not fear of Mandarin after joining such training.

Very interesting..... I never know that even young kindergarten kids can join speech competition.  You know in our time, only in primary or secondary schools, teachers will enrol us into competitons like 青年學藝比賽， 英詩朗誦比賽, etc.  

But I remember it took quite long time for drilling before competition bor.  Your boy must be a hardworking and diligent boy.  I can't imagine my boy would have patience for drilling exercise  

My boy can speak Putonghua and 上海話 (cos grandma living together with us and I myself are native speakers) and I find he is very cute when reciting Chinese and English rhymes learnt at school so perhaps next year I should also enrol him into these competitions to train his patience and presentation skills

Today my boy's class will have a 水果大食會.  Everybody need to take a fruit to school.  My boy changed his mind several times so we now have a banana, a star fruit and a Fuji apple at home and finally he chose the Fuji apple.

   I can image you are so happy to know your son to get the merit. It is a great  encouragement for you and your son. My son also join the  singing  madarian lession. But he never sing or speak one or two sentence to me. All of my family know nothing about madarian. So I just try to speak the cantonese madarian to him.  He reminded me to return the memo of picnic and must "agree" he to join. This is the first time he had this strong mind to picnic.   I think he will enjoy the 水果大食會much today.
