Regarding the English standard (educational e.g. Mandarin, phonics...), you have to understand the school well before making decision cause it’s no good for a small kid change to another kinder within 3 years. The English is simple but I think you want to train up her English, you have to do something at home; not only depends on the school. I suggest you go to school during pick up time around 12:00 pm or 4:30pm ask the parents their feelings will be more direct. You can even ask the parents to show you the books.  If you make sure the school has the same direction with you, you and your kid will have a very happy kinder school life. Do you want a happy and fun school life or very educational & for a small kid has to know everything and very internationalized?

Some parents only consider what kind of books they use (most difficult is the best), how many foreign teachers, any mandarin or phonics, computer lesson, school facilities new or not, how many toys to play………

I heard a mami said she’s regret to put her girl in a kinder cause the standard is not high enough to catch P.1 standard. How you interpret? Most of the HK kinders’ standard is simple.  I was scared when I heard this. But then, I knew she’s not studying in same school P.1 but in other school. May be the primary she’s studying is very high standard and expectation that they cannot manage and they don’t do any preparation in advance. May be so many reasons behind.
Compare to 1.5 years ago, my girl & me like this school more & more. It really depends on your expectation.

my girl also accepted by SRL- K1 of PM session. I lived in TKO and very near to you too. According to the info., TKO school bus start around 8:10am for  AM session  and 12:30pm for PM session. The exactly time will depend on yr living place. $860/month.

DoReMika is correct.  Actually, I have the books for St. Cat K3 and compare to my girl's K3 English book, their level is not really much different.   However, for St. Cat, they also use story book for English lesson and Maths is also in English.  So, their standard is higher than St. Rose.  I discussed this with my friend, who gave me the books, about if I should change my girl to a English KG because she is going to a primary which English is the media.  Her comments is "no need".  It is because those schools which have higher English standard are with NET and their school fee is much higher than St. Rose.  She told me better to use the money saved to send my girl to private English class.  Most important of all is : my girl said that she does not want to change at all as she loves the school and she will miss the teachers and classmates if I change the KG for her.

Lastly, my eldest girl studing in a P.1 now and she seems to catch up with the level now.  She learnt a lot during the pass 1/2 year.  So, I think it is really not a big problem for kids study in St. Rose KG to catch up the P.1 English standard.  However, just as DoReMiKa explained, you can't only depends on the school.  So, parents will need to plan for their kids.  If you set St. Rose primary as your target, then, you don't need to worry at all as the KG will prepare the kids a smooth transfer to their P.1 study.

I just let my girl goes to a English class once a week.  During the class, the teacher will read her a story book, then do some comprehension paper for the story and a little bit phonics.  They will also play some games at the end of the class.  The teacher is a NET, so my girl must speak in English during this one hour course.  She also learning phonics with this teacher.  So, totally, she spends 2 hours in the center.  I am going to let my younger one to start the English conversation course in March.

I think when you search for the course, you must check the ratio of teacher to student in each class.  The next thing I will concern is the transportation time.  I will prefer to study near by instead of going to some far away center(s), unless they are "extremely" good.  Otherwise, it will become a burden as the class is for a long period of time, not just 1 or 2 months.  For English class, I think it will last for 1 - 2 years.  Or even longer.

Specially for 盈媽媽, I know u've been experienced to wait at the standby list & I understand the feeling was not good. Any way, I believe V all are good moms & we dont mind to sacrifice/do whatever in need just to offer yr babie(s) the best in her life.  
Regarding the English of Haya now, we are a bit late to start; She is currently taking a playgroup class in 'John's Edu' at MetroCity I (G/F). 因為我以前給Haya報了一些activities,比較遲先記得同佢報讀英文班,為了令佢不會太恐懼,我選擇由playgroup開始,反正小朋友pick up能能力強,無所謂,我只希望小女開開心心上學,快快樂樂回家;不過,如果有時間 or in summer,我都會給一點exercise to her for practice.

How is the course in "John's Edu"?  Is it good?  I want to know because I think it has a Summer course for kids in KG.  During the Summer course, the kids will go to the center for a few days in a week, just like go to school but will have more activities instead.

好難講John's Edu的質素好唔好,小女只上了５堂,很多時佢對新開始的activity都表現抗拒,需要兩三個月先可以適應到;今次上的是playgroup而非正規英文班,雖然都老師係鬼妹,佢總算幾有耐性去上學,不過,始終playgroup是不能跟正規英文班相比的....

Thanks for your reply. Actually, the Summer course they offer is not English course.  It is kind of half day playgroup course. Please give comments again around May.  I think by then, it will be time to consider their Summer course.  Thanks again.

Is Samantha the English teacher of yr babie on Sunday class? How is your teacher? Patient? Since my girl is old enough to stay by herself, I dont need to join together; However, I do want to join her & build up her confidence to talk together with Sam. Now she is quite shy to answer when Sam asked her questions. Actually, I really want to let her join the English class which opposite to ToyRus. That school runs by several English professors & it sounds interesting of their classes. The only thing is, their classes are more expensive and the venue does not fit to us. Do u have any comment ?

Hi, Espirt,

The center I send my girl is in Laguna City.  Is it convenient for you to come?  If not, really don't think it worth the transportation time as I think a lot of centers can offer similar courses.  However, if you can arrange a after school pick up in Laguna City during school day every week, then you can consider this center.  I think that it is important to have a native English speaking teacher for the course.  (A lot of centers can meet this point) and then the ratio of teacher to student should be a low as possible.  Then, the fee is reasonable and affordable.  Again, don't worth to spend a lot of time in transportation as this type of course will be last for years.  If the teacher/center is good, you don't want to make the change, so it will beome difficult for parents, even kids, to spend too much time on transportion just for 1 course and still keep the desire for attending the course.  If you are still interested in it, please PM me.

BTW, John's Educational Center just open a new branch in Laguna City.  They will have an open date on this Sat and Sunday.  Free trial lessons are available on these 2 days.  Time as following :

Sat (Mar 4)
Nursery - 14:30 - 15:00
K1 - K2  - 15:00 - 15:30
K2 - K3  - 15:30 - 16:00
P1 - P2 - 16:00 - 16:30  (For P1 - P2, one more section on Mar 5 14:30 - 15:00.  The rest of time on Sunday is for P3 - F3.)

I had joined John's Educational once at last summer for a month and my feeling was just so so. Maybe at that time all kids just around 20 months and the ex-teacher don't know how to keep them down and attract them. Don't know the current teacher is good or not ?

For the english pg, I heard other moms said there are two pg in 坑口 also very good. As I'm not going to join any english pg at the moment, i don't have the info. on hand. If you guys want to have, i shall check it for all. it's welcome
