Your daughter is similar to my son. I found that games and prizes "獎勵" are workable for my son.
My son does not like writing, could not sit well and always runs around. But, he has good memory and likes playing and challenge. He is easily to feel boring if I use one method only. I design a lot of games for him to review Eng dict. I would not ask him to write during revision unless he could not write it out finally. He knows if he could not make use of the games to remember the words, he has to write and this is not his unfavorable work.
There are some examples for your reference.
I spell with him on the way to school and after school, on the bus and on the bed. I'll spell the first letter and he spells the second one, likes the game "接龍". We review one or two words each time. Who could not spell out the following letter will lose the game.
My son likes singing very much. I fill in the letters of a word in a song for him to sing and he could remember well, likes s-t-a-n-d, stand. We sing together on the way to school, shopping, or on the bed.
I wrote the words in cards and ask him to pick. Sometimes, we exchange the roles, he speaks and I pick. He likes bringing the cards back to school on the dict date for revision.
I ask him to spell out by writing one or two nights before the dict. He has to correct the wrong word 3 times. As he does not want to write, he review well before dict out.
I found out games could help my son a lot. He usually got 100 in English dict last year, only two times got around 95.
As my son does not like English and weak comparing with Maths and Chinese, I always told him that "Mami understands you work very hard". I give him a little prize after each dict, even without knowing the mark, like eating at McDonald, an ice-cream, or watching TV before doing homework, playing toys, etc . Big prizes will be given if he got 100, medium prizes for 80-90, etc. As little prize was already given, no prize for lower than 80. |
