Even for the english, my son spelt it correctly, but the teacher counted it wrong because it is not writing well.....

Yes ah...... my son was very happy from last nite until this morning coz today no lessons (only party) and no dictation.

I felt that our kids really have pressure about dictation and studies ah...... poor kids.   :-|

Yes, even my K2 boy, he is so excited when dictation, since he know the word but still cannot get full mark, so he is a little bit disappoint. Sometimes I think it's just a kinder, why don't let my son enjoy his happy kinder school life.

Hi sandwichmum,  
    Don't give pressure to yourself. Your son will know what's happen if you unhappy.I think you are really too nervous. It make you and your son under stress which you don't know. Sometimes, I also had this idea --  why the kid can not has a happy life same as us  for the only 4 / 5 years old boy. But, the education system always make us to choose this way for the kid. Take it easy and then it will pass easily and happly in my experience . I never show disappointed face  during I have  receive the dictation book when he can not get the full mark. But I encourage him again and again . I think it is a positive method to teach him.In fact, the dictation is just start in K2 and it need the time for the kid to accept. Don't nerious and don't worry

Hi Sandwichmum,

    To better prepare for the more demanding primary life in St. Jo., it's not bad to let kids to get used to strict marking system in kinder.  

Both parents and kids will have pressure certainly.  What I can do is just show 平常心 law.  I want to show to my son that 'marks' are not the most important, whether he knows which part is not perfect in teachers' eyes is more important.  

And I told my son that I don't care if he can't get full marks but I don't like if he doesn't complete his homework or dictation seriously.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN    

Have your kids joined 'trick and treat' activities?  Our living place organized a 'trick and treat' activity in Sunday night.  My boy insisted to join so I accompanied him to go to all four blocks in our living place, every flat (walked staircases     ) to get candies.

My boy was very very happy (cos he got a lot of candies ) but I nearly died (I told my husband that I had already done exercises for the whole year    )

i had run through 2 blocks by stairs with my boy last year for getting candies. U a right, i almost died. Last night, we had dinner in m. grandpa house, my boy didnt join the game la...My hubby will take my boy to lankwaifong tonite for opening horizon wor

Our living place also organized an activity tonight, but I'm busy at work, so I can't accompany my son to join. :cry:

my mum accompanied him to join and many kids came to our home to take candies too.

I couldn't agree more! My son is only 26months and he had a wonderful night by playing the "trick & treat" even he doesn't know what's Halloween about!  Kids keep ringing the door bell and he's just being very excited and running to the door.  Give candies to those elder kids one after another...That's what we want our son in his upbringing.  A enjoyable childhood. Doing all the funny or something silly things without any prejudgement.  Good or bad no matter which flipped side of the coin...good luck!

by the way, I know many of you here are parents of St. Joseph's Kindergarten kids.  Can I ask your comments about having kids in this school.  How's it running? My son got accepted by Kiangsu & Chekiang and will be attending interview at Victoria...Just wondering if the timing is allowed to apply some other like St. Joseph's...Thanks so much!

Welcome to chat more with us (so we can learn more good Eng. from you    )

St. Joseph's College Kindergarten has only Lower and Higher grades (K2 and K3) no K1 classes so perhaps your son will have to take K1 course in another kinder, like most of our boys did.

It's a very traditional boys school (no girls  ).  They have Chinese, Eng., Maths, PE, arts & crafts, music classes, etc.  2 dictations a week, 2 examinations a year.
