Dear CPU1995,
請問你兒子在Wymondham讀Year幾呀? 我兒子今年9月會讀Year 9. 會住在Fry House. 他現在 ... My younger son is studying Year 9 now.
During the first 2 months in school, he has experienced something of a culture shock and feelings of homesickness as a result of his first experience of boarding school life and has had to adjust quickly to the way in which things are done in Wymondham. After 2 months' adptation, he obviously has to find his feet and adapt to domestic school life. He does interact with other boys in his dorm happily and does have many friends in house and year group.
He is involved in sports for nearly two hours a day and sleeps at 9:30 pm while wakes up at 6:30 am. During prep time, all Year 9 students will go to the ground floor of the house to do homework. I am not sure whether there is a student mentor or school tutor but my son normally finishs all homework within half an hour. After bedtime at 9:30 pm, the house master and matron will patrol the dorm evey half hour and will confiscate the mobile phone or laptop if student still uses it after bedtime. The soft drink is expensive (1.6 pounds) so he drinks water every day. During term break, the school would provide schoool mini-bus to Thetford coach station and student can buy 11 pounds National Express coach ticket for travelling from Thetford coach station to Heathrow terminal though the journey lasts for 4 hours.
In order to help newcomers in transition to life in Wymondham, I think the housemaster has already done great job. As a parent, you may Whatsapp or Skype him every day. You may also request your guardian to visit your son regularly. Since my elder son is studying in UK, he sometimes travels from his University to visit his younger brother in Wymondham during weekend.
If you son can participate sports or join activity in Wymondham, I am sure that he can make new friends and adapt to the life of Wymondham not before long. You may also consider sending your son back in HK during his first Oct half-term breadk.
Up to now, my younger son finds himself tremendously lucky to have opportunity to study in Wymondham College and his only compliant is the lack of quality food in the school.
Fyi, my guardianship company is http://mission-links.com (1,395 guardianship fee) though most HK students would use White House (695 guardianship fee).
