SC President: No one will be forever young
Navis for QC
In his opening address, President of Student Council, Benjamin Wong, explained the theme, Floración. "Like flowers, we don't 'blossom' at the same pace. Some may grow faster. Some may be prettier but some may end up a shorter life."
⋯⋯
"We all have to go. But we pledge to bring up the young as if how we were brought up. Our big brothers are like 'fallen petals', from a Chinese poem, which return to soil and nourish our soul," he vowed.
"Very quickly, this Council and this College will soon 'blossom' with an even greener cabinet with even more creative ideas. They will live up to our values and pass this never-ending torch," he said.
He appealed to boys of Queen's College, "No one will be forever young, but there are young men forever. We trust you fellow young men. Let's start it here."
"It's never too late to love this place when we cheer 'Hip! Hip! Hurray!' at the end of the day," said Benjamin Wong, President of Student Council (Navis for QC), this evening.
"Have QC boys changed? Has QC changed? Both have been hot questions when I met Old Boys of different generations," he spoke to a packed crowd closing the Open Days.
"QC has been open and liberal for the last century and a half. We might once take freedoms for granted. Boys of Queen's College, stay alert, think critically, and speak up. In crises, we need a louder voice. This is our obligation given by history," he urged.
Turning to the retiring Assistant Principal, "For an evergreen pillar, a kindly instructor and guide of our youth, Mr Sunny Leung. We will miss you dearly. We will not let you down when you join us next year in a different role but the same passion," he added.
