Just some update from Andrea(but I think some of them are wrong):

They made latern today.

Miss Au was sick and Miss Poon substituted as the English teacher today.  They did not recite the English poem

Miss Yu (PTH teacher) came for the lesson.  Andrea recalled the teacher said "小朋友午安".  The students said "余老師午安".  The teacher said "小朋友好".  The student said "余老師好".  Andrea also said Miss Yu did a worksheet with them.  Andrea said like this in PTH "請你們把大的圈起來".  She also said they also pretended to be the teacher (Miss Yu)

Hi mommies,

Oh, does it mean all your kids are doing some "extra" homework for chop chop?  Alvin has only tried this once on a piece of paper, and he never mentioned to do it again afterwards.

BTW, Alvin told me that yesterday 4 classmates were absent from school.  A bit afraid that school would be suspended again.

When she enters classroom, she submits the homework at once. And then she passes the another book for Miss Chiu's chop chop. She has written several pa ...

This "extra" writing is not compulsory.  Miss Chiu just encourage the kids to practice more on writing and drawing.  On the other hand, I just treat this as an "everyday revision".  Andrea is so happy to do this "extra writing" after she finished her homework.  She even did this better than her "normal" homework...  You know, I don't need to put extra effort on her revision then (what a lazy mom, right?)

My boy doesn't want to do anything extra. He only wrote the Chinese words and English words and Numbers once and got 1 chop. He sort of complained why he wrote so many on the piece of paper and only got 1 chop. He refused to do this compulsory work again.
Alex also told me that they learnt to count from 1 to 20. He had no reaction towards the English rhymnes. He probably didn't want to respond to me.

At last, we've got their first syllabus sheet :)

Andrea told me that they learnt the word 自己 yesterday.  They were also asked to write numbers (1-30 )on a piece of paper distributed by Miss Chiu.  Andrea said she can’t take and bring it home cos “it belongs to the principal”    and they also did some coloring yesterday

Great Alvin

I think they feel easier to handle words with straight lines rather than curve lines.

Ah... coloring...  Andrea told me that it's for the latern.  I wonder if Andrea's look like a mess

Yes, straight lines are easier.  That's why 木 is easier than 天 for them.
Oh, I'd also like to see their lanterns.

Hi all,

Andrea told me that they wrote numbers 1-10 on a piece of paper yesterday.  However, instead of writing by counting forward, she said they were asked to count backward this time.  She also mentioned writing Chinese number 1-10 too.  Just want to check with all moms here and see if Andrea's talking the truth or not.

She asked me this morning to bring her to Wan Chai tomorrow to watch the flag-raising ceremony.  She said Miss Chiu told her so

I also wondered if they had started the dictation too!

As I found the back of 1 class worksheet was marked with numbers and answers

Hi all,

I think they have started dictation already.  Andrea told me that they write some alphabets on a piece of paper yesterday.  As I was late home last night and didn't asked much.  Don't know if that's true...

Also, Andrea said Miss Chiu asked the class to write (she said "copy" actually) the words they learnt (from the copy book and star book) on a piece of paper at home for revision during the holidays.

Do check the star book.  They wrote 工人, 早上 at the back of the book and "上--下" and "大--小" in the middle of the star book.

Hi Felicia,

I want to ask some questions about P1 application.  Did your daughter take any exams like Trinity and/or LCMM before?  Are these certificates useful for P1 applications?  I have heard from some talks that the principal doesn't care about the certs but it seems that everyone is taking those exams.

Thanks!

Dear cartoon9,
My daughter took the Trinity Guidhall (not sure how to spell) performer exam which is the Gold performer award. But I don't think this is important and I believe that schools do not take these into account because it's so easy to get those certificates. This is how those centers and institutions earn money from parents. I will not enrol my son to get into those preparation classes for these exams. I truly believe that the schools give priority to KV honour students, students achieved piano exams, students got recognised awards/achievements from well-known ballet bodies, music schools, well-known swimming teams, etc.
However, no harm if you get one or two Trinity and Cambridge cert for your girl. She will learn at least something from those courses.

Dear mommies,

Yes, some friends also asked me to enrol exam programme for my son for P1 application.  I also wondered how primary schools would treat these certificates.  BTW, Felicia726, may I know what's "KV honor students"?  Is it the top of a class?

It's really difficult to be a honor student.  You got to be good "all-roundedly" (i.e. home work, class work, assessments and other developments in school)

Trinity Guildhall - my friends told me that it's of no use to get young performers cert.  It's better to have certs for initial, stage 1, stage 2...

Headache... I just wonder what kind of cert that could outstand Andrea...

Btw, Andrea told me that they played "dictation game".  Today, they were asked to write 5 Capital letters but they didn't ask to draw.
