If you prepare it well, you should know what the school / headmistress wants. (You can easily find the interview of the headmistress telling the details of the interview).
Last year, I even downloaded the video interview of the headmistress and showed to my son several time for better preparation...

I appreciate the interview is ONLY for the children as it focuses on the selection of the students, not the parents.

Why not?
If you had the experience of 2nd interview with your kids of those mega school, you will know...

Compare with those schools, I do think SPCPS focus on the selection of student, NOT the parents. Of course, the school will consider the backup of the family. However, the focus is still on the student.

p.s. the portion of the application form is only very small, just parents names and occupations, no others

There are tons of info. from the web. Here attached one of the link. However, you should "read between the line". The student should be:
1) Polite
2) capable to express his idea (oracy)
3) Concentrate
.....

In fact, I should say most of the famous schools want to let the brilliant and smart kids in. Therefore, their requirements are more or less are the same.

You think 10min. is not enough. I strongly agree with you.
However, what the school should do?
8XX to 9XX applicants for 90 seats - If every applicants take 30 minutes, how many month it takes for interview...
A company recruit a staff also may take only 1 hour. For a 5 year-old kid, what do you expect? Please note that academic test is not allowed and the human resource of SPCPS is not really big due to it's small campus.

It's not fair but it's the reality.

Finally, I do think the interview of St. Paul Boys is not perfect and can be improved continously. But compare with others, it is OK and at least it's comparatively fair because only the headmistress makes the decision.

I like the way the head mistress do ... open the door and let you watch the whole interview.

As for the time arrangement,  5 mins is really short.   Considered that a kid of 5 facing a complete stranger. He/she has to be able to settle down, present himself, answer questions with quick response.... etc. It's really hard. ( How long will it takes for an adult to feel ease talking with stranger). That, I think, largely depends on the personality of the kid.

So, if you kid is not admitted into school of your desire, don't blame your kid.  It does not mean you kid is  not smart, it's just that he does not posses the characters that attracts the interviewer at that time .
