各位開平家長, 您們好,

本人兒子是第二自願派到開平小學, 故本人很希望能知多點. 希望在開學前能給兒子有心理準備.  請問開平家長怎樣能使小朋友由 k3 至 p1 順利地適應新環境.
本人很希望知道開平一星期有幾多次默書, 一年有幾多次測驗及大孝試; 教學模式是否活動教學, 中文堂是否用普通話, 英文堂是否用全英文 … …

My son will become P.2 in the coming year.  He studied 崇真幼稚園 and I think the teachers are doing quite well to help the new students to settle.  The class size is around 33 and they have 4 classes for each grade.  So, I think there should be no problem for the kids to settle, but it depends on the type of kindergarten your son studied.  

They have one Chinese dictation and one English dictation in each week but they just start with a few sentences at the beginning and they also have pre-dictations and writings homework prior to the dictation.  So it is not difficult.  They also have little awards for kids who have 100 marks in the dictation.  They have 2 tests and 2 exams in a year.

The principal said they would consider teaching Chinese in mandarin in P.2 as the P.3 & P.6 assessment in Chinese oral is still in Cantonese this year.  My son said her English teacher speaks some Cantonese to explain to them.  They also have some additional English classes for kids from the mainland, unfortunately not those born in HK.

Though the school introduced itself in the website of using 活動教學, I have the impression that they still have quite a lot of homework in the 1st term and the school cares very much about the academic result.  The P.3 & P.6 classes have compulsory additional classes in all Sat. a.m.  but the overall syllabus of P.1 is not too difficult if you compare with other 名校, like 九龍塘宣道 .

But I would like the school to have more school activities and school bus arrangement for the school activities as well.

I don't know if P.2 would be a lot more difficult and anyone knows please tell me.  Thanks.

我為小女轉校時，查到旅港開平小學的升中 Band 1比例是 54% (並有聯繫英中開平中學)在深水埗區免費的小學中只比聖方濟愛德小學低，因此，在05-06學年下學期轉入，當時舊校上學期的名次是34名/135人平均分85.93，開平確實深些，小女下學期平均分只有 75.90 名次是79名/140人，跟著的名次在30幾40幾間，現在名次己排至全級22名，她現對20名內甚至10內都有信心。
總結來說，開平注重英文，自資多請一名外籍老師，很多免費的英文活動，另外，功課較多，工作紙多，我覺得開平的老師教學水準極高(小女進步)，非常關心學生(小女常回家說給我聽)。該校缺點，地方較窄，比較適合文靜的小朋友。

My son will become P.2 in the coming year.  He's now in P.1A.  Do you know if P.2 would be a lot more difficult for the students?  I heard parents from other schools always said P.2 is much more difficult.

For other parents,

I personally think Hoi Ping is OK as my son studies quite happily.  Last year, Hoi Ping is my 5th choice as there are other big schoools, like 'Lai Chi Kok Catholic Primary School' & 'SKH Kei Fook'.  The teachers also concern a lot about students' behaviour.  Of course parents also have the responsibility to teach kids' manners.  I think as a 'small' school with 4 classes for each grade, it has an advantage because other schools have only one English native speaker and they have to teach 36 classes in a school.

開平比我嘅感覺係校風純樸，對學生獎罰分明。其實，每間學校都會有些比較頑劣的學生，我覺得最重要都係家長自己平時點教個小朋友，讓佢地自己分清是非黑自，凡事不可盲目跟隨(因 peer group 影響好緊要)平時，每日抽時間同佢地傾計，可以了解吓佢地喺學校嘅生活。

至於功課方面，可能小女做功課非常慢，所以基本上已佔去每天大部份時間，希望佢上咗.2 會有改善啦！

而教學方面，整體上老師都好好，佢地會用小小禮物去獎勵D小朋友。上學期考試，我覺得小女普通話好似追唔上，我致電找老師，個老師個別咁教小女唔識讀嘅地方，仲用說話鼓勵佢(小女講番比我聽)，令到佢對普通話有番信心。

我覺得校風都吾錯, 如有打架問題...etc 學校應變功夫都好快,我見2-6年級d細路都ok. 有時早上, 佢地整到我, 都有同我say sorry. 至於擔心女兒追不上？我覺得佢地一年班係用step by step同獎勵的方法教. 因為派位原因, 有很多新移民, 佢地eng每日有4句係pre-dict. 又出cd比佢地自學自默.
至於功課, 每日5-6樣, 吾會太多. 教學如何 ? 我覺得校長同老師好有heart, 幾take care d小朋友, 作風踏實, 低調. 我send e-mail 比學校的意見, 佢地全部都有reply.

其實，我諗個別老師做法都唔同，不過，我真係好感激普通話老師，佢令Alki 對普通話唔再咁抗拒！

我都諗住暑假比Alki學普通話，不過想單獨教授，集體上堂嗰d，我驚佢發夢。
