Hi Yanni

aagirls, 362436,

thank you!

Dear Yanni

Dear muimui
It is always difficult as being a piano student/ a pianist is quite a 'lonely' process, as one needs to learn to be very discipline and learn to deal with his/ her own problems/ difficulties.  Maybe encourage her to play with others (say on Saxophone with your son) to enhance interest, if she has spare time.

But on the other hand, once she learnt how to deal with difficulties on music, she will learn how to deal with problems in her daily life - quite a useful skill ar.

For your son, it is good that he is interested laa.  Of course, to take music as a career is totally different, quite a difficult decision, as it needs a lot of dedication,

all the best

Just join in to chat if you dont mind:

For keyboard, it is a bit difficult, even it is a full size keyboard, the weight of the keys are difficult - the child will find it very hard to adapt to real piano.

For 數碼琴 like Claviola- sightly better, as their keys have certain weight, and are relative touch-sensitive.  But maybe after 6 months/ 1 year, when you are more sure that the child is interested in learning, you have to think of getting a piano la

Just simply my opinion

Dear Sisima
Just my personal opinion, few things you can do to help the your child not being so nervous at exams:

1) Bring along your child to test the piano and get used of the environment of the exam centre.  Just once or twice will do

2) A lot of the times, examiner rather want the candidate to ask things they do not understand then doing it wrongly - for instance, if the child cannot hear clearly what the examiner asks for (esp in the scales section), instead of playing it wrongly (most frequent case is the child mixed up Left and right hand, or legato scale and staccato scale), the examiner rather the kid ask them.  Also the interpreter is usually quite willing to help, and it is their job to explain, when the kid raise a question.  Of course if the kid does not express that he/ she doesnt understand, then both the examiner and interpreterwill just carry on

3) some people find that try to imagine the examination process helps - ask the child to imagine how he/ she will greet the examiner, how the examiner will smile back and talkto them, how he/ she sits on the piano and play his/ her first piece etc....

4) do eat something - not too full, but eat something before going in to the examination room.  Some people find chocolate helps, as usually when we are nervous, we used up a lot of energy.

5) most examiners are very nice, and they are usually very kind, esp to the lower grade.  And they hope to see the kids being expressive and musical too.  So instead of just playing the piece and go away, encourage the student to be imaginative

Hope this helps - I used to be an interpreter, hence I know

Dear chengcc
just join in - feel that Yamaha is a more safe option - of course it depends whether it is a new piano or a second hand.

The C models has slightly shallower touch and the U1 has a firmer touch.  But as mentioned, if it is a second hand piano (which I personally have no objection to, but need some experience person to look at it before purchasing), need to look at the soundboard (whether there are cracks - this is very important), and the inside part (ie the strings and hammer - to see whether are are worn out.  Then the touch - if it is very loose, need to rethink.

hope this helps
