yes, chinese is important. otherwise you should put him in international school.
My friend has similar case to you, her son never speak Cantonese at home, he only speaks Eng to his parent + maid, and speak Mandarin with his grandma.
He studied in Fufil schools for PN class, and only speaks Eng. However, this year, he is in st cat, he does not love going to school, because sc also uses Cantonese a media unless the NET speaks ENg.
her son refused to see TV in Cantonese, whenever my friend switchs on the TV, her son will turn it to Pearl channel. Then my friend decides to quit SC next year and apply ESF int'l p1.
So, if you can alter Tim, you should do it to avoid too many limitation for your choices of school.
for me, Mo Mo will communicate with my maid in Eng, but for me, I will speak with him in both, sometimes chinese , sometimes ENg. He will change his channel base on what Language I talk with him.

My HB and Me are 100% Chinese, I don't know why he said he is not a chinese, may be the hospital make some mistake?????????
I have already change the Channel to him, but he always ignore me when I'm taking Chinese. I have ask Ms Lee, Ms Lee told me that tim understand Chinese at school, sometime he even will answer Ms Lee in Chinese. but not Mommy. 點算?????????
