Re: ST. Joseph kinder

Hi Youngmami and Jackielee,

How're you doing?  As a K3 parent, you should be busy.  Will your son apply for DSS/private schools as plan B?  If so, you should have been extremely busy on preparing the personal profile, interviews and so on.  Take more time for rest.

Though my son is studying at P1 in St. Jo, I  have a K1 daughter and therefore still come to the kindergarten thread.  Besides, you friends are still here.

Many thanks to sng for copying the news article here again.  A crazy person is attacking St. Jo Primary at the primary thread.  The best way to do is not to respond and complain the wording being used there.

Based on the news article, it appears that the existing 80 K2 students will be benefited from the change.  But there will be keen competition for the 2007 K2 application.

All the best to all of you,

Hi Lelu,

Thanks for still remaining in our thread.  Like you, I also can't stop myself envy this year's K2 parents.  They will get what I dream of: - through train to secondary + whole-day primary school

I am such a lazy mother so have NO plan to apply for other primary schools because not want to go to other schools indeed.  Hope primary principal Miss Leung will be kind enough to take my naughty boy lah

You have a little girl in K1? very perfect !  which kinder she's going?

Hi Lelu,

You said "ased on the news article, it appears that the existing 80 K2 students will be benefited from the change.... ", what do you mean by this?
Does it mean students like your son now in p.1 will not be benefited from the school's changing into 'through train', if that really materialised?

Re: ST. Joseph kinder

Thanks to sng's clarification.

Hi Lelu & youngmami,
yes. I did apply 2 DSS schools for my boy, but actually my hope is just as youngmami.
I've decided no other school name will be appeared on the P.1 application form even in round 2.

Hi Jackielee,

But according to principal Miss Leung, once the DSS primary accepted your son and you registered for that school, your son's name will be taken out from their list bor

I know DSS will announce results (usually by the end of this year) before you know the final result of Central Allocation (June next year), so what will you do if that DSS school accepted your son? If you choose to register that school, your son's name will no longer be in the list for Central Allocation bor.  But if you still want St. JO., you won't register that school, right?  So why you pay the effort to apply and interview that school ??

I just feel puzzled here.  If my understanding is correct, no need to apply DSS.  Please correct me if I am wrong.

Re: ST. Joseph kinder

Hi Jackielee & Youngmami,

I really understand the feeling of Jackielee.

Last year, my son applied 5 DSS/private schools.  He was fouled out at the first interview by two of them.  We were invited to attend a 2nd interview by another DSS school but we, the parents, failed.  He was only in the waiting list.

A private school gave my son an offer on Dec. 2005 but we rejected it as we were confident that SJP would admit him.  I applied that school for getting more exposure on school interviews.

Another DSS school called to admit my son on Aug 2006 but we decided not to accept the offer as we did not like the hardware of that school and we viewed the academic performance of SJP is better.

Please note that once we "accept" the offer of a DSS school, the applicant's name will be given to the EMB such that the boy will not be entitled for the central allocation.

I appreciate Jackielee's effort.  Good luck!

Youngmami, see your son in SJP (downstairs of SJK) next year.

Re: ST. Joseph kinder

Hi LLT,

"灣仔區名校聖若瑟小學計畫於○八學年,把小一班數由現時八班減至五班,小一學額將減少約一百一十個。"

The article mentioned that the no. of classes will be reduced from 8 to 5 on 2008.  The existing K2 students will gradulate on 2008.

The principal of SJP, Miss Leung, has informed us that the change will not affect other levels of the school.

Hi Lelu,

Thanks indeed for your detailed explanation!

Oh..I see....... in that case, if the DSS school announced results later than Central Allocation and if your son failed St. Jo., you still have a choice to choose that DSS school.  That's fine.

But the problem is I believe DSS schools 'better' (in some ppl's mind, not in mine, of course) than St. Jo. I don't think they will announce results so late.  But if that DSS school is not as good as St. JO.  I think I will pay more effort to 'knock door' instead of accepting that DSS's offer.

So to me, a lazy mom, I won't apply for any DSS/private primary lah.....

Me too....... really hope to see you, Lelu....

Re: ST. Joseph kinder

Hi Lelu,

Thank you for your advice.

It is so heart-breaking to know that my elder son will not be benefited from the school's changing into 'through train' and he still has to struggle through to the secondary division in the years to come

In any event, I hope that my 2nd son will be able to benefit from the change if that really materialised!

Re: ST. Joseph kinder

Hi St. Jo. Parents,

Any parents/kids interested in forming a study/play group in HK Central Library every Friday afternoon?  Kids can do their homework, read and play there.  Parents can have a chat and afternoon tea.  My wife usually takes our boys there around 3 pm.

I had a hard time to supervise my boy to do his hw this Saturday.  It took him 2 hours to finish it (My wife does a better job that me).   It isn't right.  He should has incentives and joys from doing hw.  Any thoughts from other parents?

Re: ST. Joseph kinder

youngmami,

I did just as what Lelu said.
We might not accept the offer.

One of the DSS school I applied is HKUGA, I might consider this one if they accept my son.

I see.

It seems that HKUGA did attract quite a lot quality applicants bor.  Some of my friends also applied this school for their children.  But it's too far away to us.

I only considered 'St. Paul Co-ed" seriously if we should apply for it but since I don't like "co-ed" schools so didn't apply for it at last.

Hope my 'one heart' will be duly rewarded lah

Re: ST. Joseph kinder

Hi all K3 mami,
it is a special time for us to consider the coming decision.I will prefer to apply the private school more than the DSS school. It is because we should signed the giving up consent if the DSS school accept our son. How can we choose at that time? I think all of us must prefer ST. Jo at the first position. So, I prefer to apply the private school as the back up one. Some private school might not require us to sign the giving up consent. But, otherwise I hope all of us will go into the pri. My son get only 15 marks How about you. Do you know the dictation will be start on Wed and Thur? 如果交form的人同張form不是同一人, 要有mud帶, 我當時一時去咗遊埠?  My son get a sick , I am very worried.

Re: ST. Joseph kinder

Hi Lelu,
No time no see. How grad to see you again? How about your son in the pri life? I think it is also easy to adapt at the first month. As I know but not sure, the books  and plan of P1 are changed. School hope to change more high level than past year. And, I think you are so busy to teach your son and daughter for the new school life. Be hard

Re: ST. Joseph kinder

Yes,

The private schools that allowed to attend the central allocation are 慈幼、真光 & St.Louis.

Hi Jackielee,

Last nite so happen chatted with one friend who has applied HKUGA for her son and she said HKUGA will announce results quite early so what will you do if they accept your boy    You'll give up St. JO.?  I think HKUGA and St. Jo. are totally different types of schools ah.  It's really a big decision to you   Is HKUGA nearer to your home?
