nattyma, no wonder my kid has a better writing at school.  Thanks to the teachers!!!      .  My son prefers to go to St. Jo (than his previous one).

The reason why we enroll him to different classes is we don't know what he is really good at and interested in.  It's also one way to spend his energy.  

sng, I was planning to enroll him to a swimming class, but he said he would only want to swim with us.  It may not be the best time for him to learn swimming (not enough incentive or peer pressure).

nattyma, you can ask your girls to teach your younger son what they've learnt.  It's a win-win for them. Besides, it won't cost you too much money or concentration if you take them to library and museum.  We may go there together if timing is right.

sandwichmum,  I told you my son is going to get the "good boy card".  In deed, he told me all his classmates get it.  Is that right, rmma?  

He showed me immediately after I came back home.  I didn't expect he got so much excitement and joy on this little card, but I have no clue how he gets it.  More power to him and other kids.

    I think all of you are so excit that your kid go to K2 in ST. Jo same as me before. Don't worry . It will easy to pass. I am also the mochaichai mami. As I know, the teacher will give the first one card (good boy) at the first or secondary week for encourage the kid. The boy will very happy to get the card.

My boy said the teacher told them it will be more hard for K3 students to get the good child card. He didn't get any up to now.

Dear parents of St. Joesph's Kinder,

I am considering applying for admission into K2 in St. Joseph's Kinder for my 2nd son next year.

I am given an impression from your discussion that St. Joseph's Primary School will certainly take back all students from its own kinder.  I do, however, wonder how she is able to do so under the present rules on the allocation of school seats set by the Education & Manpower Bureau.

If I am not wrong, 30% of the seats in a primary school (government or subsidized) are reserved for applicants who must be admitted because of his sibling studying or parent working in that school.

20% of the school seats are reserved for applications through the Points System, whereas the remaining 50% are for the 2nd round lucky draw (Central Allocation).  Further, if the seats reserved for those applicants who must be admitted are insufficient, the shortfall will be replenished from the seats originally reserved for the Central Allocation.

In light of the above, I shall be grateful if any parent can enlighten me how St. Joseph's Primary School has room to accommodate all its Kinder's students in case all or most of its established seats have already been taken up through the above stated allocation system.

I believe your boy's saying is correct coz my boy also didn't get any good boy card so far and did you notice that in the 2nd term of K2, that's more difficult to get it, usually only when got full marks in dictation !

Yes you understand the 'game' very well!

The answer is -

"Yes, NO 100% guarantee for kindergarten graduates to be admitted to the Primary only if you get high marks (father is old boy; elder brother is old boy or is studying in the Primary; Catholic, etc.) in the Central Allocation System".

OR let's put it this way, if your boy has high marks, which kindergarten he is going doesn't matter.

Do you know that no. of kids in K3 has already be cut to around 90 (your son's year is 120, right?).  I think the School has already planned for the change for long time.

Don't be upset, coz your son still has bigger chance to get into the primary section. When I first heard the news, I thought I was lucky and been excited for a while. But now, I am starting to worry as my son is the 2nd child with no old boy father nor brother in the school. This means the chance of my son being accepted in the first round is slim. I have to depands on his luck in the 2nd round which we normally don't have.
Anyway, lets wait and see what will happen in the forthcoming year.   

BTW, any parents has read the thread that Lelu referred us? There is a very mean parent bad-mouthng on St Jo. :tongue: :tongue:  :tongue:

I agree with your points. After second thought, I don't know whether this change is good or not. It all depends on the school's intention which won't be known until next year or 2008.  Hope it is positive.

Don' think you need to worry too much on the admission into the primary division at the moment.  The impression I got from the school is she feels a strong obligation to take back her own students within the chain of divisions but handicapped under the rules set by the government; and it is further limited by the school space insofar as her secondary school is concerned.  In any event, I believe that students from St. Joseph's own kinder will have definite advantage over the outsiders during the 3rd round of the game (i.e., knocking-the- door).

There was in fact a fierce war between a lunatic (who is having the same big mouth of Lui Sau Ling) and other parents in relation to St. Joseph's Primary School yesterday in the primary thread of this site.  Thanks to the support of various parents from other schools, it appears that this insane person has been defeated and keeping her mouth shut at the moment.

If there is a so-called 'knocking door' stage, it is natural and reasonable for the primary to take kids from their own kindergarten instead of someone coming from other kindergartens, right?

Yes ah we seem to have bigger chance to get a seat in primary but if your boys can get seats in primary, their secondary seats are nearly promising, no like us......      

I didn't read the thread Lelu refers ah.  I mentioned that I thought Lelu transferred to primary thread only because I remember Lelu is last year's K3 parent and her boy is now St. Jo. primary 1 so I just GUESS that she transferred jar.  

I shall take a look of that thread if I have more time.

According to one of the principals (forgotten about the am or pm section) of Hennessy Road Government Primary School when she gave a public talk to parents last year, there is always a few % of the seats rest in the discretion of the principal in each school under the present system.   As such, there is always the 3rd round 'knocking-on-the door'.

Anyone know St. Jo had school bus from North Point directly and how much as well?

Sch. fee is $2762. Books, snack & mis. payment is $1350 for half-term. My boy is taking po mo van of central line, it is $750.

"A" Bus will take kids from North Point.  The cost is around $600 (not sure because my kid is taking "B" Bus).
