advice: 多留意 english writing (30%), 好多人weak呢.
Hello eggeggma,
Can you advise the format for"english writing" so I can prepare some similar practises for my daughter . Thanks!!
stick to the worksheets "guided writing" and others. Usually you can come up some clues for the format of the test, e.g., punctuations, complete sentence-writing, reordering/expanding sentences (I can't recall exactly the format of the first test, usually easier for the first one).
The format varies from test to test, but there is one section which appears all the time: with the help of a given model/example, write a few sentences using new information/data . e.g.,
model:
This is a dog.
It is black.
It has 4 legs.
Task: look at the picture and rewrite with the given data:
(2 cats, brown and yellow, mouths)
You have to write:
These are cats.
They are brown and yellow.
They have 4 mouths.
here girls usually forget to begin sentences with capital letters, to end each sentence with a full stop, forget to change singular into plurals, etc.
Well, my experience is that concentrating on the worksheets and exploring all possible alternatives are enough to exhaust your energy. In the first term, I did try to force eggegg to do extra exercises, but soon found out it is a waste of time and energy, partly we had no time and partly it is difficult to find other exercises whose format exactly resembled GH. I mean the 'writing assessment.' Of course, if you want full marks, you may do something more.
Some P.2 parents here might recall there was a task (in term 3) requiring you to change "His name is Peter" into "Their names are John and Mary." This appeared first in a couple of term 3 guided writing worksheets, then in the third test, finally in the third exam. The trick here is changing 'his' to 'their', 'name' to 'names' and 'is' to 'are'.
Another advice: spell the vocab list as these vocab are the answers in the listerning, writing and reading assessments.
