Re: Think International School

monkeymei,

1. are there 1 chinese 1 english teacher for the billingual class? Yes
2. can the kid master chinese and english also by attending this? I cannot speak for the others.  I do see many children speak Chinese and English well, but can't tell if they can master both languages, or their language stills are solely attributed to the school's teaching.
3. can the kid know mandarin also? there are 2 mandarin sessons per week for Upper Nursery, I believe the frequency will increase for senior students
4. kids are happy and willing to talk with foreigners?
thx Yes, I observe that many kids actually speak fluent English and they are not shy from foreigners

Re: Think International School

Thank you very much for all your sharings.
I have contacted with the school.  As informed, there is only Chinese class in N1.  Students can only have 15-20 minutes of English lesson a day.  Is it right?  The staff also told me that I can consider full day class for my daughter in case she adjust well to the cirriculum there.  For full day class, students can learn Chinese in am and English in pm.  However, I don't know exactly the time schedule as I know that kids usually has nap time in the afternoon.

Re: Think International School

Chiufan,

For N1 and K1 full day, kids will have nap time for 2 hours after lunch.  So don't worry.

Re: Think International School

WYmom and rdc888,

I forgot if your daughters are now studying in Bunnies (MeiFoo).  My son will be changed to a.m. Bunnies + p.m. UN from next month.  I hope he'll be ok with this.  I'll let him taking full day class in LK and UK.

Yes, my daughter is studying in Bunnies + UNB.  So your son will become her classmate.  Hope to see you later.  :

Re: Think International School

WYmom,

Thx!!  I hope my son can get well with the new classmates and teacher soon.  The Chinese teacher (Miss Ho) said Bunnies and UNA sometimes play together so they should each other before but not well know.

Btw, do you know the timetable of Bunnies?  Is is similar to UNA?  Does your daughter starts to write A-Z now (according to the line)?  My husband worries that the class content/progress is different between these two classes.

Thx!

Re: Think International School

maria_lai,

I think content of UN classes are similar.  For full day class, whole morning is in English with story time, then they have mandarin and Chinese class after nap time.

They are writing alphabets starting from 2nd term now.  Don't think that you have much to worry.  Kids can always adapt fast.

BTW, there are many more boys than girls in full day class (only 3 girls including my daughter)!

Re: Think International School

WYmom,

Thx.

My husband just worries if Bunnies no need to write A-Z now.

After attending fully day class, does your daughter like to speak in English more than Chinese?

I hope my son can adapt quickly.  My mother worries that he'll be tired in the afternoon (if can't sleep in school) and can't pay attention during the Chinese lesson.

Haha, we have so many worries.

Re: Think International School

Maria,

My daughter now speak Chinese to me and English to her father (as her father used to speak English to her since she was a baby).  She will also speak English to NET and Chinese to Ms. Ho.  She however do like to read English story books more.

She now also sleeps less in the afternoon as she has grown up more.  By K2, they won't need to sleep at all.  You can check with teachers about your son's adaptation afterwards.

Re: Think International School

WYmom,

All of us speak Chinese to my son.  However, he's able to speak English to NET and Chinese to Miss Ho.  I'm happy that he manages this quite well.  He likes to read both Chinese and English book, but usually he asks us to explain/tell the stories.

The reason my son attends full day class is because we want him to be more independent, especially on eating and sleeping.  We try to educate him at home but he still replies on us very much.  We hope he'll be improved more later.

Re: Think International School

Maria,

Yes, my daughter with Bunnies and UNB in the MF branch.  We just been to the parent/teacher day and the teachers told that my daughter is the most active child in the class and always ask/answer questions.   Like last time they tried the eggs (normal egg, salty egg and black egg), she is the only one who can tell the differences amongst those eggs.

Re: Think International School

Hi, Chau444,

my baby is now 9 months and I;m considering the 2 years old class for her (sorry, a bit too early but just want to make a right choice for her).
My hubby, myself and my maid talking in English mainly to her and we'd love to create a billingual environment for her (that means, English and Cantonese), our plan is after she got familiar with these 2 languages, we'll let her learn mandarin also (since my hubby and myself also know Mandarin, not native, but good enough to communicate in business matters), we can speak to her in Mandarin later, of course, the teaching should be conducted by native speaker.

I don't prefer to put her to full day course in 2 year class, so if I put her to half day billingual 2 years old class.
Will her got enough English environment to learn English?
should I put her to international stream in 2 year class since not much chinese taught at that time, so I can speak to her in cantonese at home for her to pick chinese and let her immerse in English environment in school in order to have a good english training.
which way is better? any recommendation?

language skill is very important and exposure is also important even if they're small baby, they can pick up a lot.  I believe.  And, the most efficient way for them to pcik up language is via the environement, teacher and peers.  That is another point I buy international stream since all kids are from different culture and have to speak in one single lanagauge, they can learn from each other and master English medium.
sorry, too many questions, I love my baby, I want her to be happy. I never aim to have a very talented daughter but I know having proficience in english and mandarin will definitely make her life easier and she can communicate with many other people better.

Re: Think International School

monkeymei,

Chinese is in fact more difficult to learn than English, seems that your appoach is much more biased to English.

Re: Think International School

WYmom & rdc888,

[deleted]

My son recently doesn't cooperate again when doing his homework.  He always 無心機 to write the line or sometimes can't concentrate (talk about this and talk about that).  We all know he's capable to do it but he just tries not to do it, maybe he's not interested in it.  I hope he'll understand this is his responsbility soon and change his attitute.  We're always frustrated and don't know how to improve this.  I talked to my son's teacher and asked for her help.  I hope it doesn't take too long to see the improvement.

Re: Think International School

maria_lai,

There should be 9 or 10 full day students.

Maybe your son just feel bored about drawing lines all the time.

My daughter sometimes does not answer me on the words she learnt, but then I saw her teaching her dolls the letters.  So now I know that she does not want to be a student at home, but rather be the teacher! :

Re: Think International School

WYmom,

Maybe you're right that our children don't want to be student at home too.  I understand children like playing more than doing homework.  It's same as us when we were children.  However, I just can't control myself not to be frustrated and angry.  I'm low EQ but luckly my husband isn't.  Haha!!  He always reminds me our son is just a child now.  I hope I don't have any bad influence to my son.

I told my son's teacher that his performance at home and school which is quite different (he performs well in school of course).  It makes me feel better that I don't need to worry much on my son's capability.  At least I know he can do it but just try to depend on us at home.
